FOOTBALL The 1947 season ended with the Longhorns winning three and losing six games. Kimball was represented by a scrappy sauad which lacked weight in certain positions. Leonard Sterle and Jim Davis were the lads who held the team together. The fine showing made by the freshmen: Linn, Clay, Good. Schindler, Larson, and others, speaks well for football in Kimball during the next three years. On offense the work of Clay, Kellner, Sterle, and Wilson was apparent Mueller, McMurray, and Davis provided good backing. On defense Sterle, Davis, Schindler, Good, Linn, Schadegg, Pancheau, and Stander played good ball. -28—

BASKETBALL This year the Longhorns had a fairly successful season; however, the team was hot and cold. We won 14 and lost 6 during the regular season of play. In the District Tournament we won 1 and lost 2. The starting regulars included Francis Cortney, our best player and captain of the team; Jack McMurray, tricky forward; Jim Mueller, rebounding guard; Dick Wilson, faking guard; Kenneth Kellner, scrappy forward; Clitus Kelley, defensive guard; and Jim Stander, tippling center. Our Freshman Team consisting of Berton Linn, Conrad Good, Donald Clay, Jerry Strasheim, and Dick Schindler show promise of becoming a winning team. The Yearlings beat Scottsbluff, Minatare, Sidney (twice), and lost only to Mitchell. The Junior High Team under the capable tutoring of Mr. Blank won the invitational Junior High Tournament at Sidney. Later they lost a close game —30—
