by the Sen lor cast Everyone agreed that Mrs Moody s first dramatlc productlon at K1l hngly was a great success The cast was headed by Frederlck Maynard who played the leadmg role of Hank Bennett the Yankee H11da An derson gave an excellent portrayal of h1s nelle s character1zat1on of h1s slster Mar ron added comedy to the play As the scene changed lnto a med1eval court Kmg Arthur the hen pecked husband was played by Bernard Racxne Ann Strunk was cast as the domlneermg Queen Gumevere Paul LHBOSSIBTB as the crafty Merlln and Ann MOFTISOD was hls accompllce ln crlme Morgan Le Fay Further comedy those at tend1ng danced to the muslc of Jlmmy Whltman and h1s orchestra In one cor ner hung a huge s1lver star and durmg the er en1ng confett1 fell g1v1ng the effect of snow whlle the theme song Wh1te Chr1stmas was played The chaperones 'VIr and Mrs Iavs Vlxss Prest M1ss Bake M1ss Oldfield Mr Socquet Mxss Sherldan Mrs Moody M1ss Hustad and Mr Payne a n a l1v1nG room complete w1th fireplace the glrl Mr Payne then led an octette of boys 1n the s1ng1ng of Chr1stmas carols and later everyone Jomed 1n Dur1ng 1nterm1ss1on the trees were auctloned off by Ted Maynard Punch and cookles were 1n February the class was faced vuth a SQFIOUS questlon Should they have a formal dance or 1nformal'7 The gravlty of the s1tuat1on caused by the gas ol1ne shortage and pleasure dr1v1ng ban was well real1zed by all the members of the class When a vote was taken on the matter lt was almost unanlmously xn fa vor of an mformal dance The Semor Informal Hop was held 1n the hxgh school gymnasxum at 800 p m .the orchestra engaged for the dance was none other than the Colleglans of the UD1VGFS1tX of Connectlcut An outstand rn even of the evenmg was the crown mg of the Queen of Healts bx oul Llass D . , 1 n y . n Q 1 , - . 7 ' .l . . i l , - J ' y . . . . , This past year has been a typical war year in athletics as well as in other ac t1Vltl6S The only school sport carried out w th inter school competltion was basket ball Many uncertainties and d1ff1cult1es threatened to cancel the schedule how ever Previous years had found Kllllngly starting out her sports season with a soc cer team but th1s year it was found 1m pOSS1blE to have one Our athletic dl rectors could not be dlscouraged so eas 1ly however for they mapped out and supervised an mtra mural touch football schedule The Semor boys had an un defeated season and took first place in the league Archery Manager Barbara Vett Archery was a new well liked sport th1s year Equipment conslsted of two targets five bows and several dozen ar rows wh1ch were used by the glrls every good day 1n the fall The practice was held 1n the fall and the tournament ln the sprmg Both took place 1n the Held in back of Robert Heneaults home on LHomme street Basketball practlce began the last of November w1th so many glrls out for each team that ln the Freshman Sophomore and Junlor classes A and B d1v1s1ons were formed In the toulnament the Junlor A team finally triumphed over the others and in the final battle between the Junlor A and the Seniors the Juniors won Thls yeai several Sophomore and Jun 1o1 girls lealned to referee and umpne and practlced du11ng the basketball sea son Each glrl who umpired in a re ular game received points toward her let ter Those partxcipatmg were M Jas m1n H Gilbext B Cooke J Bernler V Clay ton C Kent E Reddy and B Mid den Badmlnton Managel Noima Andei son Boys Sports Girls Sports Page 56 After several threatened cancellations our basketball season finally got undex way Students hopes were rewarded by a schedule of twelve games arranged for the season Gerry Page was elected cap tam of the 45 team and it carried on a very successful schedule endlng over the five hundred mark Follow1ng the regular basketball sea son a program of inter class basketball was planned Again as 1n touch football the Senlors sported the best team and ran away with the title When the yearbook went to press a spring season of baseball wa be ng pre pared but had not definitely been okayed This year badmlnton started about tl'c first of April for all classes This sport 1S st1ll a young one at K lhngly but will be ClaSS1f'led under the polnt system with the other sports this year Bowllng Manager Lorralne Ladd Between twenty and thirty girls er Joyed bowhng one day a week for sev eral months beginning February 1 194 Bowllng teams were plcked after s1x weeks of practice then the tournament was played Many girls who had never bowled before became quite proficient Some who do not Joln in other sports like to bowl Softball Class teams were OIga1'11Z6t'l as 1n other sports and games were played at the Paco Field Hikes In the fall a supper hike was plenned but cold weather interfered so plans were postponed until spring when It was gleatly enjoyed The Freshmen th1s yeal haye shown great 1nte1est 1n the Sports Club and many are well on their way toward their numerals and letters Play days have been gwen up for the duratlon and ficld hockey was postponccl th1s year because of lack of transpoltatlon to the field Nevextheless all sorts of sports and intra mural games xx ere fully enjoy ed at a close range Y 9 . 7 . . h y . . . - V g . . . . , Q L . - , . - n 7 . . . . .
