Again this year we tried making money at the Carnival by having a fish pond Our candidate for the Carnival queen was Louise Spurgeon and she chose Gary Glassford for her escort This year a few more boys felt daring and so five from our class were on the football team Raymond Dix, Arlie Croskey, Lester Leckrone, Jerry Martin, and Gary Glassford Since we had the best attendence record this year, we received a day off from school On May lh, we piled into a bus and went to Mohican State Forest What fun we had roaming over the hills fishing and roasting hot dogs ! Three girls got basketball cheerleading They were Janice Frederick, Louise Spurgeon and Karen Shafer Jerry Martin, Gary Glassford, Lester Leckrone, Dean Conner represented our class on the basketball teams We were very proud of them For Baccalaurete and Commencement Nina Varnes, Judy Schopfer, Susanne Miller, and Karen Shafer were chosen to usher wlth school beginning once again we became 28 hard working, penny-pinching Juniors with Mrs Purdy for our advisor Officers elected that year were President, Susanne Miller, Vice President Louise Spurgeon, Secretary, Judy Schopfer, Treasurer, Sandra Roach, Asst Treasurer, Karen Shafer News Reporter, Mary Williams, Student Council, Jerry Martin, Don Purdy, and Marilyn Chanay, Candy Chairman, Louise Spurgeon Karen Shafer and Louise Spurgeon were elected to help lead the cheers football team For the Homecoming game Susanne Miller was elected Homecoming Queen and Sandra Roach was her attendent we very eagerly ordered our class rings on September 25, and after many diss apointed weeks flew by, finally received them on November 30 On Oct 2, we started out early in the morning to do some back breaking work, potato picking We all took turns selling candy at noon and Jane Taylor supervised selling food at football and basketball games On October 26, we sponsered the annual Halloween Carnival which everyone agreed was the biggest and best ever had Louise Spurgeon was elected Carnival Queen Next was the Chmstmas season and the 3rd annual J1ngle Bell Ball on Dec 19 Janice Frederick, Sandra Roach, Louise Spurgeon, and Karen Shafer were basketball cheerleaders On the team were, Gary Glassford, Dean Conner, Ronnie Michel, Raymond Dix, Jerry Martin, and Lester Leckrone Again this year we were entitled to a free day from school which we spent at Mohican Park, hiking and loafing in the sun After weeks of rehearsal we gave our junior class play whxch was Hold Everything , everyone enjoyed the play just as much as we enjoyed putting it on On May ll, after many nights of hard work, we gave the seniors the Prom which was centered around the theme of Fairyland Romance It was very romantic wzth a pond in the center of the floor which was fairy-land Pixies served our dinner before the dance After the banquet we danced to music which was furnished by the Modernaires from Canton Vernitta Miller was elected queen to reign over the garden When we entered our last year of the little stroll down l1fe's path we found ourselves a privileged class, the Seniors There were 28 of us, one member,Janice Frederick leaving to become Mrs Tyler, and Raymond Dix who left us in the middle of our Junior year came back to graduate with Susanne Miller once again held the gavel to keep our class in order, Arlie Croskey was Vxce President, Judy Schopfer, Secretary, Sandy Roach, Treasurer, and Louise Spurgeon, Ronnie Michel, and Jane Taylor were on the Student Council Dance chairman was Jane Taylor and Asst Sandra Roach We started right in by giving our class play, Ready Made Family on Nov 13, which was a lot of fun and brought lots of laughs After the play we had a class party in the multi purpose room On the 17, 18, and 19 of October we put on our best smiles and went to Wooster to have our pictures taken We had some outstanding football players from our class thzs year, Raymond Dix, Gary Glassford, and Jerry Martin To help cheer them on to victory were Sandy Roach, Louise Spurgeon, and Karen Shafer Betty Crosby was football attendent The Antler staff was elected and we started to plan our yearbook At the Carnival our girls did a dance which was entertaining Marilyn Chanay was candid ate for queen In May the Juniors gave us a nice Prom and banquet Next came the two biggest nights of our lives, Baccalaureate and Commencement Soon after we started on our class trip, some thing we had been looking forward to for a long tame Thus ends the twelve Best Years Of Our Lives 13 O U I , o ' S .O , o - 7 u o Q O 3 at the football games. Gary Glassford, Raymond Dix, and Jerry Martin saw lots of action on the us.. ' C1 One evening as Mrs Purdy was sitting in her easy chair reading her Killbuck Cronical, she noticed the list of men in the armed forces Some of the names were familar to her She was really surprised to read that Don Purdy zs now a lieutenant colonel in the air force Further on were the addresses of other service men Raymond Dix and Roy Parrzsh are now midshipmen together in the navy As she skims over the page she notices that Lester Leckrone's dream came true, a navy pilot, Just what he always wanted and none other than Ronnie Clark is his navigator Down farther in the column were the addresses of General Arlie Croskey and MaJor Edward Reed Just think of that!! Oh well, we always did know that our boys would get some place in this life On the next page of the paper was a feature article, at last the dreams of the people of Killbuck have come true The dedication of the Klllbuck Conummity Hospital which was held last weel' To her delight she found the staff members Marlene Hunter and her head nurse, Jane Taylor Jane's assistants were Judy Schopfer and Sandra Roach On page five was the school news written by the superintendent of Killbuck High School, Susanne Miller Marilyn Chanay has just recently been hired for two more years as school secretary, and Carol Klner signed her contract for three more years as music teacher Gee, Mrs Purdy thought, some of my children are follow- ing in my footsteps and are doing a very nice job of taking over the school In the society section she was reminded that Mr and Mrs Ben Tedrow CLouise Spurgeonj were celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary That certainly brings back memories of one night at senior class play practice when Sis came running into the gym to show us her engagement ring Well what do you know, Betty Crosby and Marilyn Schonauer who just got back from a trip to South America are now taking off for a trip to Europe!! By now it was time to watch T V but this paper was too interesting to leave so Mrs Purdy tells Mr Purdy, her husband, to turn on Channel 3 to watch the nation's top commedian, Ronnie Michel Remember all the jokes he used to play on the teachers? Now he gets paid for it!!! A list of new beauty parlors caught her eye next and to her surprise she found that she could get her hair set at Vernitta Mi11er's Merle Norman Studion or Karen Sha.fer's Beauty Nook In the advertising section, Jerry Martin and Gary Glassford, Presidents of two famous big companies were running an ad for two secretaries Now there is a nice place to work for Wanda Schonauer and Mary Williams, Mrs Purdy thought They are both very good secretaries Dean Conner, owner of a trucking line, ran ads throughout the paper advertising his business Geraldine Mizer had told Mrs Purdy about his business the other day when she came to visit She also said that Dean had hired her as his private secretary The editorials were very interesting in that issue One was written about Larry Arnold, who was recently elected President of the Loafers Society Oh well at least he got president and will do a very fine job The other was written about Otis Tennant who owns his own restaurant on the square in Killbuck. That is where Sid can take me to dinner tomorrow evening thought Mrs. Purdy as she made a mental note of it. At last Mrs. Purdy has finished the paper and puts it down to rest her eyes. She thinks about all the interesting experiences she has had with her sons and daughters, the class of '58, lb 3 were some of her own students of 158.
