'F' +41 .-.Alf fx! Wil It --History-- 'Twas a bright September morning in the year l9bA, that a starched and combed Cand a little frightenedb group of first graders made their first appearance in the wilds of Killbuck School. However, we soon became accustomed to the ways of the wild as Mrs. Keyser skillfully guided us through the first our lives as young bucks. reach the edge of the forest became our goal. As the years passed, us strayed from the trail, but new faces took their place and when we the part of the forest reserved for Freshmen, we had 37 members. For days of To some of reached our officers we elected Pres., Laurel Marting V. Pres., Ned Orrg Sec., Bonnie Chanay, Treas., Sandra Taylor, Student Council, Jack Nyhart and Loretta Carpenter. By now we were somewhat accustomed to the ways of high school. However, we weren't truly members of high school until we had been initiated. After a day of slavery to the Sophomores and a supper of squirrel eyes and worms, we were allowed to call ourselves true Freshmen. Beverly Christopher was our candidate for carnival queen and Janet Starner, Homecoming Queen Attendant. This year we worked hard to win the attendance contest and came out on top. On the chosen day, everyone cane equipped with lunches, cameras, balls and bats, fishing poles, and a few bathing suits, and we were off to a wonderful day at Mohawk Dam. Another summer passed and we found ourselves faced with a sign marked HFor Sophomores Only.' As Mrs. Weltm r looked over her group this year, she found a few faces missing. Jim Anderson, Bob Moore, Tim Kibbey, Marilyn and Carolyn McKee, and David Schonauer had remained behind. Elsie Fortney and Peggy Butler had dropped out of school and Laurel Martin moved to Millersburg. However, we were happy to welcome a new member-Luella Thomas, who hailed all the way from California. We elected Pres., Bill Stephenson, V. Pres., Ned Orrg Sec., Bonnie Chanayg Treas., Sandra Taylorg Student Council, Beverly Christopher and Larry Smith, Social Chainmen, Jeanne McFadden and Timothy Kibbey. Now it was our turn to be served and courtsied to by 'babyn Freshmen. We initiated the Freshmen and really gave them the works. For the third consecutive year we won the attendance contest and spent another fun-filled day at Mohawk Dam. At the end of the year, our President, Bill Stephenson, announced that he would be moving to Toledo in the summer. We made our Mohawk trip a going-away party for Bill and presented him with an engraved bracelet. Bonnie Chanay reigned as Carnival Queen this year and Sandra Taylor was Homecoming Queen Attendant. With the next turn of the trail, we became hard-working, penny.pinching Juniors. Our officers for the year were Pres., Ned Orr, V. Pres., Vera Marie Kaserg Sec., Bonnie Chanay, Treas., Sandra Taylorg Student Council, Larry Smith, Beverly Christopher, and Loretta Carpenter. Looking ahead, we saw that we would have to get down to business if we were to save enough for our class trip. So we took advantage of every money-making opportunity in sight. Our candy and food sales brought in a steady income. In October we sponsored the annual Halloween Carnival. Our queen candidate was Elaine Neal. We decorated the gym with the typical black cats and witches. In the spring, we presented a three-act comedy, NSwing Your Partner.U Even though it rained, we had a full house. The play was a smash hit. Our most back-breaking project was potatoe picking. We learned what it was like toreally work for our money. We sponsored the first Jingle Bell Ball and had a great turn-out. With the end of the year came the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. We chose for our theme HUnderwatern and worked many hours making fish and menmaids to decorate the gym. Everyone had a wonderful time. And so the end of the Junior year came to an end. We were almost to the edge of the forest now. The next time we entered the doors of old Killbuck High, we were mighty Seniors. Glancing over the class, a few faces were found missing. Yes, during the summer Janet Starner had left us to become Mrs. John Shafer and Jean Russell was wed to Marlon Bockoven. Stepping in the door we were blinded by the flashing diamond on Nancy Hall's left hand. During the year she became Mrs. Bob Hunter, but stayed with us till the end. Mary Hawkins left us during the year to become Mrs. Earl McCombs. We were all sorry tosee her leave but wished her much happ ness. We elected the following officers: Pres., Ned Orrg V. Pres., Jack Nyhartg Sec., Bonnie Chanay, Treas., Sandra Taylor, Student Cou cil, Loretta Carpenter, Nancy Martin, and Junior Gray. Our class play this year, nGood Night, Ladies,n was written by a local man, Ed Day. It was a great success. Again we went potatoe picking and although we were rained out by noon, we the II Annual Jingle Queen and Janice added to our treasury. Christmas came and we sponsored Bell Ball. This year, Nancy Martin reigned as Carnival Crosby was Homecoming Queen Attendant. We are nearly to the edge of the forest now. what ur class motto states, 'Within ourselves our future M lies ahead for us? As o lies.'
