Histor It was only twelve short years ago that the class of 'SS started out in the f1rst grade We d1dn't quite know wnat it was,all about yet Everythlng and everybod was so strange to us but after we got aquainted with everybody, everything went smoothly for the rest of the year During the year Norma Chaney and Charles Gallion Joined us as I1PSt graders Frosty Ridenbaugh was with us 1n the first grade, but moved to Glenmont. 51 S2 After e1ght long years 1n grade school, we were all walting eagerly for our Freshman year finally arrived Mr James Burns was there to meet us Many changes had taken place 1n our class but we were 35 strong Our class officers were Pres , Norma Chaney, V Pres , Shlrley Arnold, Sec , Louise Galllon, Treasurer, Sylvia Porter, News Reporter, Kenneth Schonauer, Student Council, Joyce Chaney and Robert Hunter Virginia Ames and Irene Murphy were the new pupils 1n our class It soon came time for the Sophomores to 1n1tiate us They made us wear slgns on our backs so long and so w1de thatsaid , Green Fresh an All day we had to carry the1r books Believe me, after the day was over, we thought that we deserved a party That nlght they had a n1ce party lor us, and everyone had a good time On October 2, we had an lnvitatlon hay r1de party We went to the road side park, there we had weiner roast At the Halloween Carn1val Sylvia Porter was our candldate lor queen, Irene Murphy sang for he program The fishpond, our concess1on, was very successful Robert Alllson, Gary Hanklns and Clyde lmytsell were the football players from our class Robert Alllson, Wallace Croskey, Robert Hunter and Howard Masters represented us 1n basketball We were proud of the fact that four basketball cheerleaders were Freshman Jerl Lee Denman was elected to the varslty team Mary Ellen Mullet, Lou Ellen Tidball and axlne THFK were chosen lor the reserves Members of our class were actlve in extra currlcular work 1U muslc and sp ch Durlng the year we lost V1rg1n1a Ames Joyce Chaney, Irene Murph and Donna Weaver left our class to be marrled 52 53 we entered our So homore class w1th only 29 puplls 'e palned one new memb r, Carolyn Parsons Durlng the year she moved away We had a new 3dV1SOP to see us through our second year of hlvh school, Mrs Margaret Fstlll Our class Off1CQ s were Pres , 'aron Schopfer, V , Pres , Tommy Klbbey, Sec , Sylv1a Porter, Treasurer, JoAnn Brumme, News Reporter, Vaxlne Turk, Student Council, Beverly Carpenter and Bobby Alllson From our class, Louise Galllon, Maxlne Turk, Llllian Young and Norma Chaney took part ln the Prlnce of Peace Maxlne Turk, Jer1 Lee Denman, Aaron Schopfer and JUn1OT Pyers vere members of the Latln Club Jeri Lee Denman, Lou llen Tldball, Mary Ellen Mullet and Paxlne Turk vera elected football cheer leaders Bobby Alllson played on the varsity b sketball team Aaron Schopfer, Donald Atha, Jun Landon played on the reserves Maxl e Turk, Lou Fllen Tidball, Mary Ellen Mullet were the basketball reserve cheerleaders Jerl Lee was on the var lty Thls was our year to 1nit1ate the Freshman We made a l1st of thlngs for them to wear and do They had to carry a cloth and shlne our shoes They also had to carry candy and vlve us a plece every t1me they saw us That nlght we had a party for them Ex ryone had a very good tlme 53-Sb When we began our Junlor year, we galned one memb r, Leland Parsons Throughout the year we lost Shlrley Brlnk, L1ll1an Young, Walter hlte, Charlotte Chrl topher, Shlrley Arnold and Nancy Coakley The Junlor Class began an excitlng year with manv new experiences and responsibllities under the gu1dance of Mrs Margaret Fstlll ve began the year wlth a hay r1de and xelner roast at Nashvllle Roadslde Park Thls was enwoyed by all members of the class On October lb, members of the class went to Vboster and plcked potatoes all day It got pretty tiresome by the end of the day, but everybody had fun p1ck1ng up potatoes Oh' the Wall inn feellng the next da le ordered our class rlngs 1U Novemb r and recelved them January 15 After the long walt we were very happy to wear them Db sponsored the Halloween Carnlval on October 23 ve sold c1der, donuts and candy, also had dart throwlng and we sponsored the dance It was a great success We sold candy, hot dogs, pop and potato Ch1pS at all of the basketball games and sold candy durlng the noon hour We also sold pennants whlch vere black and gold with a large buck on them The class held a M1Stl6tOS Dance on December 29 It was en1oyed by all who attended Tb had a paper dP1V9 on January 9 'e worked pretty hard on 1t, and ve had a lot of fun It 1ncreased our treasurer a llttle Four of our members Maxlne Turk, Reverly Carpenter, Mary wllen Nullet and Jer1 Lee Denman participated 1n the Pr1nce oi reace cont st JoAnn Brumne, Maxlne Turk and Beverly Carpenter were 1D the declamation contest Max1ne Turk and Reverly Carpenter were w1nners ln dramatlc readldgs and represent ed us 1n the County Speech Tournament, February l9 Our class pla books were ordered in January and we beganpracticethe mlddle of February e presented it on April O It was a hillbllly comedy 1D three acts culled A Feudin Over Yonder It was njoyed by a large audlence As soon as our play was over, plans were made for the an ual Junlor Senlor Banquet Prom Ve all looked eagerly forward to the Nbig nlghtn of the year, aturday, May l After spendlng hours decoratlng C .
