'!' 5 Q J 19149 50 Four short years ago on a warm September day, Mr Cupp as our adv1ser The Sophomore Class gave us a royal jewelry, make up, and ribbons in their hair The girls wore Every Freshman had to carry an empty su1tcase every place he Freshman as beasts of burden to carry their books for them we-u-naw!! ,ing 5, 27 of us started our high school career with inltiation on September 23 The fellows wore five pigtails in their hair and no make up went In additlon, Sophmores used the Margaret Swinehart was the class candidate for the Carnival Queen Her escort was Parker McDowell Prior to the Carnival, we had a float on parade downtown Several members of the class provided instrumental music for the occasion For our money raising projects at the Carnival, we had duck ringing and basketball playing Joanne Denman provided our number for the program We gave our Assembly Program on Jan 27 The name of our program was A Day With the Freshman Class As may be imagined, it was a humorous take off on faculty members and students Our officers for the year were Roger Arnold President, William Stephens Vice President, Joanne Denman -Secretary, Kenneth Moore Treasurer Our athlet c partlcipation during this year and the follow ing years is recorded in the History of the Athletics 1n the Athletic section of the book 1950 51 Our Sophanoze year found us with the same adv1ser, Mr Cupp During the past year and sunlner we lost five of our members, leav1ng only 22 This was our year to initiate the Freshman What a day Sept 29 proved to be October 12, we had a hayride and October 26, the Halloween Carnival Our class officers for the year were President Parker McDowell, Vice President- Roger Arnold, Secretary Shirley Taylor, Treasurer Bill Stephens Our chapel program C11l'l'l3.Xed the year on March 30 1951 52 September, 1951 found us startlng in our Junior year, with a new sponser, 'Irs Purdy This year the class elected the following officers President -Shirley Taylor, Vice President- Parker McDowell, Secretary -Wilda Sigler, Treasurer -William Stephens, News Reporter Junxor Haun The class was quite busy th1s year with money rais1ng 3.Ct1Vl'bl9S Our first project was the Halloween Carnival which people seem to agree was a success Ve sold food at basketball games and candy at noon During basketball season we sold basketball schedule pencils and cards at Christmas t1me In the Christmas Decorating contest, our room was awarded first prize Ronnie Pyers partic1pated in the County Prince of Peace and County Declamatlon Contest Shlrley Taylor won a ratlng of Good in the Poetry Reading Contest Five Juniors were band members Shirley Taylor, Wllda Sigler, Forrest Chaney, Joanne Denman, and Carole Schonauer Joanne Denman was chosen the Queen of the Football Homecoming game She also served as cheer leader for basketball and football On April 18, we presented our class play, The Arrival of Kitty On the same date we presented our chapel program using a preview of our class play Our f1nal project of the year, about which we had thought so long, was the Junior Senlor Prom Our theme was the Garden of Friendship The gmn was transformed 1nto a garden for the occas1on with a pool in the middle of the room A chicken Our Queen Fronsman, Pastel shades were used for decoration with yellow and wh1te, the Senior colors, predominating dinner was served, after wh1ch dancing was enjoyed to the accompaniment of Russ Young's Orchestra for the Prom, chosen by the Senlor Class, was Shirley Taylor During the year we lost Irene Parkie McDowell, and Lou Henri Baker. To our class was added Ronn1e Landon from Clark. 1952-53: The fall of 1952, found 18 of us enter1ng the last year of our High School life. This year certaIx7xE seemed full of activity. with half of the class very active in athletics, another five in band, not to mention the many additional extra curricular activities, time really fugit . Around the middle of September we found our way to Wooster to have our pictures taken. Early October we began play practice. This year we chose a mystery, Umrstery in the Library . We found it a very difficult play to present. The characters were: Wilda Sigler, Joanne Denman, Carole Schonauer, Shirley Taylor, Ronnle Pyers, Forrest Chaney, Junior Haun, David Judson, Jack Qullin, Bill Mullet, Denver Schonauer, Kenneth Moore, and Bob Kasner. On Nov. lh, we presented our play. Following, our play, we were busy selling Christmas cards, selling advertising for the Antler, and hanng a bakesale. Then came the real work on the Antler and the finishlng touches. This year we had Carole Schonauer represent our class in the Counw Deolanation Contest. As this book goes to press we are still in the County Tournament hoping we may represent our school well. Graduation Time : Now we come to the closing days of our high School life full of anticipationazd wonder as to what the future holds for us. The month of May proved to be one of the bus1est months of our careers. On May 8, we presented our Farwell chapel, May 10, our Baccalurate services, May 15, received our diplomas and were ready for our tr1p to Washlngton, D.
