1929 Twelve short years ago, thlrtv six scared first graders started the trail of EJ The Bear Factsn for the Class of 'Sl o 7 8 The years went quickly and on September 6 19 7, twenty ore of these scared s entered high school as green freshmen Nrs Helen Leltmer met us at the door of the Freshmen homeroom and successfully led us through a year of learring We welcomed two new members, Grace Pahoundis from Akron, and Esther Moore from Doylestown After getting acquainted, we elected officers president,Denver Conner, vice president Esther hoore, secretary,Mary Catherine Brumne, treasurer,Farold Tidoall, social chairman Janet Cole Of course, the Sophomores had to initiate these new Freshmen Initiation day was lots of fun The girls in pigtails and the boys made brave attempts to get their hair tied with ribbons In the evenlng, tue Sophomores gave us a swell party to make up for the way they had abused us all day In December we presented our chapel program, a one act play titled, 'His First Shave ' Some of the boys thought they were a bit too old for that but we girls knew that some of then had never felt the smooth gliding motion of a razor This was our first successful play in high school Four of our boys were or the reserve basketball team Cand were we proud of theml Five members of our class took part in the Prince of Peace contest,and seven were members of the high school band 19 8 9 we embarked on an exciting year with new experiences Mrs Veltner again I6 us at the door During the year,we gained from W Vlrginia,and Janet Layland from Warsaw but Eugene Philli s Eileen Harford CMrs Xir il Small two new members Yvonne McDowell we lost four Roo Fraellch and Ethel Proper Cmrs R Erwinl secretary,Edna Young, treasurer,Farolc Tidball social chairman,Janet Cole I September,we planned a day of initiation and an eveninr party for the Freshmen Befo Christmas, we had a turkey supper The Faculty were guests and after a bountiful feed, we danced and played games For our chapel program in Narch,we prepared an original binstrel The boys were negro clowns and the girls were sunbonnet cuties N End men were Don Grenert and Eugene Phillips Two of our members were on the reserve basketball team,and a1so,they got to be subs for the varsity, one member was a cheerleader, three bers took part in the Prince of Peace contest, two participated in the county ch contest,and eight were members of the band 1959 Q0 The good book fofflce files! said we were juniors fl9 strongl A year,c::55,5 iBBBh everyone knew, carried many responsibilities Shortly after school started, we 5 lost Esther Noore CMrs B111 Finley! Later in the year,we lost Gertrude Matheny lMrs Geo Erwlnl Officers elected president,Janet Cole vice pres1dent,Denver Conner, secretary,Edna Young, treasurer,Harold Tidball, social cha1rman,Betty Mullet Our first project was the Halloween Carnival After careful planning,we decided to introduce some new ideas such as door pr1ges,a money prize for the best decorated room,and pony rides, plus all the old ideas of selling food,games of chance,cake wa1k,and dancing Every member of our class did his part and with the splendid support of all the classes and the community, the night was declared a grand success In October,we ordered our class rings and when they arrived in November,we were mighty honored to wear them In December,we presented two one act plays for our chapel program Titles nThe Crazy Vio1et,n and nwho Gets The Car Tonight ' We sold food at all the baske ball games and candy at noon during the year On April 12,we presented our class play,a three act comedy t1tled,nHow Green Was Her Boy Friend W Grace Pahoundis,Denver Conner, John Selders,Don Grenert,Harold Tidball,Yvonne McDowell,Bever1y Jackson,Betty Mu1let,Nary Catherine Brum e,Edna Young,and Janet Cole were in the cast william Schonauer and William Leckrone were stage managers Mrs Weltner was director It was very well re ceived by the audience On May 6,we entertained the Seniors and Faculty at the annual Junior Senior banquet at the schoolhouse A mid century theme was carried out in the decorations and program Various shades of orange and yellow along with green and white lSenior colors! made a beautiful setting in the Music Room Chicken with all the trim mings, served country style, was the menu After such a busy year,seventeen juniors felt they were ready to assume Senior class activities P0 19 O l when we assembled in the Senior homeroom,we saw two new faces Vary Faler an a 'uren had joined us from Glenmont High All of the officers who served so well in the Junior year were reelected. Kspeaks pretty well for you,chums1J. Mrs. Weltmer was in her usual post as adviser. Our senior year has been a busy and happy one rly in October,we started practice on our class play titled,nTake Your Medicine Khoping it would be as good or better than our Junior playl. On November 8,we presented it to the public. It was a smashing success! Toward the latter part of October, we had our Senior pictures taken.
