’81-’82 Freshmen Rangerettes and Officers Chosen At the annual Rangerette tea held during August, 119 freshman hopefuls represented ten states and sixty cities throughout Texas. During the following two weeks, the hopefuls kicked, smiled and stretched as they learned the various routines. The campus echoed with hello, good-by, yes ma'am, thank you,” as freshmen ran to open doors for sophomores. With nights filled with prayers, tears, and sore muscles, the girls talked until one or two in the morning. The roll-off and fight song could be heard at all times of the day and night. Deana Bolton. Rangerette director. Ruth Fisher, choreographer, and the 28 returning sophomore Rangerettes judged and chose the freshmen on their ability to dance and remember the routine. Projection. precision, smiles, and, of course, the high-klck—all played an important part. At 10:00 a.m., August 20. a sign, lowered in Dodson Auditorium, revealed the numbers of 37 new freshman Rangerettes and 14 alternates. Screams of joy and sadness echoed through the auditorium. Showoffs allow the freshmen Rangerettes to perform the newly learned high-kick routine. After the demonstration, the sophomore Rangerettes show how it's donel Last, but certainly not least, came officer tryouts for the second-year Rangerettes. Three judges watched as the girls did the officer's strut across stage. Finally, a decision envelope was handed to Deana Bolton. The tension broke as the 1980-81 officers presented the batons to the new officers. The 1981-82 officers are: Captain Betty Richardson Lieutenants Valorie Mort, Mary Mirenda, Lisa Reavis, Gina McLeod The Rangerettes attended the traditional Cotton Bowl game on New Year's Day and performed in area Christmas parades. Fall Registration: Efficiency or Insanity? Ah! The first day of school! And this was like no other. Mom wasn't there to fix our breakfast or to kiss us goodbye. Dad wasn't there to wake us up on time or to count out lunch money. We were on our own. Free at last! Or so we thought. Registration at KC was an experience in organization, efficiency, and insanity. We were met by long lines and mass confusion everywhere we went. After going through line after long line, we finally began the task of organizing our schedules. At this point we realized what is meant by higher education—the higher the education the higher the check! —Mike Woods Amid all the chaos, we found thaf our once perfect schedules were worth as much as a three dollar bill. When we didn’t receive the courses we wanted, we tried to restrain from crying hysterically, stomping around, and throwing things; people tend to stare and point when such things happen. At last, we completed our tentative schedules, rushed to get them approved, obtained our computer cards before another class closed, and then turned the entire mess in to someone in charge. After completing the somewhat minor” task of organizing our schedules, we wnet to get our ID cards and parking stickers, and to pay our fees. No one prepared us for ID shock. “This goes in the yearbook?!? Then, parking stickers—that is. if anyone could remember their license plate number! The big event of the day. however, was writing the check for our tuition. At this point we realized what is meant by higher education—the higher the education the higher the check! 72 (vor.1t
