The 1981 Rangerettes capped off fheir year wifh fhe annual Rangerefte Revels. The Revels is comparable fo a variefy falenf show and mosf Rangereftes agree fhat if is fhe highlighf performance of fhe year. The fheme of fhe '81 Revels was Revels On Broadway.” The extravaganza featured such Broadway selection as One,” “Hand Jive, and “Tea For Two. The show also featured a special dedication honoring the retiring Miss Stewart, former Rangerefte accompanist. Although the Revels mainly involve the talent of the KC Rangerettes. other on-campus individuals and groups fake part in the performance. The Rangerettes went into day and night rehearsals for three months to prepare for the spectacular exhibition. The effort definitely proved to be worthwhile as the show offered a great variety of appeal for the audience. Upper Left If I Were A Rich Mon os performed by the 1980-81 Rangerette monogers. ’81-’82 Freshmen Rangerettes and Officers Chosen At the annual Rangerette tea held during August, 119 freshman hopefuls represented ten states and sixty cities throughout Texas. During the following two weeks, the hopefuls kicked, smiled and stretched as they learned the various routines. The campus echoed with hello, good-by, yes ma'am, thank you,” as freshmen ran to open doors for sophomores. With nights filled with prayers, tears, and sore muscles, the girls talked until one or two in the morning. The roll-off and fight song could be heard at all times of the day and night. Deana Bolton. Rangerette director. Ruth Fisher, choreographer, and the 28 returning sophomore Rangerettes judged and chose the freshmen on their ability to dance and remember the routine. Projection. precision, smiles, and, of course, the high-klck—all played an important part. At 10:00 a.m., August 20. a sign, lowered in Dodson Auditorium, revealed the numbers of 37 new freshman Rangerettes and 14 alternates. Screams of joy and sadness echoed through the auditorium. Showoffs allow the freshmen Rangerettes to perform the newly learned high-kick routine. After the demonstration, the sophomore Rangerettes show how it's donel Last, but certainly not least, came officer tryouts for the second-year Rangerettes. Three judges watched as the girls did the officer's strut across stage. Finally, a decision envelope was handed to Deana Bolton. The tension broke as the 1980-81 officers presented the batons to the new officers. The 1981-82 officers are: Captain Betty Richardson Lieutenants Valorie Mort, Mary Mirenda, Lisa Reavis, Gina McLeod The Rangerettes attended the traditional Cotton Bowl game on New Year's Day and performed in area Christmas parades.
