KC Campus Grows and Improves Each Year Kilgore College is constantly getting a face-lift. Many improvements have been made — the purchase of new equipment, landscaping, renovation of existing buildings, construction of new buildings and the destruction of old ones. The new apartment-style men’s dormitory was completed at the beginning of the fall semester. And with increased enrollment, the construction of two additional dorm complexes arc now underway to be completed in the fall of 1977. Another major project included the resurfacing of the 6 existing tennis courts and the construction of 2 new ones. Equipment purchases for this year ranged from an automatic sprinkling system to a 48 passenger bus. A new warehouse was also constructed containing an electrical and plumbing shop as well as storage and maintenance space. Parking space is quite a problem around campus, but it was not forgotten by the college administration either. They have utilized all available space in all areas to accommodate students and have purchased houses and lots surrounding the campus to be made into parking areas. 20

Joy, Ecstasy, Anguish — It all began with the Rangerette tea held in the Faculty Lounge Sunday afternoon, August 8. A total of 135 hopefuls gathered to begin the strenuous tryout period hoping to join the famous group. On August 18, 30 freshmen were selected to join the 35 veteran sophomores. A group of 24 alternates eligible to try out again at mid-semester were also chosen. On Friday night, August 20, the 1976-77 Rangerettes made their first public appearance. Selected to the officer positions were Kathi Brown of McAllen, captain; and Lieutenants Rac Ann McMullen of Marshall; Beverly Rochin of Desoto, Laura Barnett of Garland and Kim Chapman of Longview. After the freshman performance, the sophomores came out to “show them how it’s done.” Miss Gussie Nell Davis, originator of the 37-year-old Rangerette organization introduced the Assistant Director, Mrs. Deana Bolton and others who work with the group during the year. She announced that Rangerette managers included Don Holley of Kilgore, head manager; Donnie Spradlin, Luther Mitchell and Mike Gatons all of Kilgore and Mack Buel of Lumberton.
