Ranger defense leads Kilgore to 21-7 win over Tyler Apaches The Rangers defense smashed the Tyler Apaches 21-7 Sept. 15 in Kilgore. In the first quarter, the Rangers recovered a fumble on the Apaches 11 yard line and Steve Adams drilled a pass to split end Bobby Matkin for the six points. Hawkins'booted the PAT, and the Rangers led 7-0. A strong rush by the Rangers blocked an Apache punt, and Gary Robinson fell on the ball behind the goal line for a touchdown. The PAT was successful, and the Rangers had a 14-0 halftime advantage. Late in the fourth quarter, the Rangers scored for the last time. Hawkins hit Matkin again on a 26 yarder. The PAT proved true, making the final score 21 -7. D. 24
