A. The Navarro Bulldogs, under the leadership of Ken Gillespie, upset the Rangers in their season opener at Corsicana. Two field goals in the first quarter gave the Bulldogs a 6-0 lead. A few plays later, Claude Barnes took the ball and from a yard out stormed over for a KC touchdown. Bobby Matkin ran a fake kick for the PAT giving the Rangers an 8-6 edge. Less than a minute later, the Bulldogs scored on a 15 yard sweep by Harold Green. Gillespie ran for the two point conversion. Then, Gillespie hit Keith Thomas for a 26 yard TD. The PAT was good, and the Bulldogs led 21-8 at the half. In the fourth period, the Rangers scored on a seven yard pass from Buddy Hawkins to Chris Breuleux. The extra point failed, and the score stood at 21-14. Navarro scored last on a goal line plunge by Green. The PAT was good making the final score 28-14. 0. 20 7HV
