Rangerettes Announced The tension mounts — the eagerly awaited numbers are shown and the hopeful stillness is broken by the unexpected joy of dreams come true and the knowing heartbreak of dreams shattered. The new members of the internationally famous Kilgore College Rangerettes have been announced. Miss Gussie Nell Davis, Ranger-ette director; Mrs. Deana Bolton, assistant director; five managers and thirty-five sophomore Rangerettes returned for the pre-training session which began Aug. 11. As the next two weeks passed, hours were filled with stretching and kicking, learning and perfecting routines, smiling and projecting, rules and regulations — and in two words HARD WORK! The tryouts were held Wednesday, Aug. 21, and the names were announced at 9:30, Thursday morning. Out of 76 girls 27 joined the ranks and 21 were chosen as alternates. u

4,002 Students Enroll for Fall Registration for the fall semester began August 26 for sophomores and students taking classes in the evening. Freshman students registered August 28-29. A total of 4,002 students had enrolled by August 30. Academic credit enrollment showed an increase of 60 students or 2,968 enrollees. Included in this number were students in off-campus classes held in Longview, Mt. Pleasant and Daingerfield, where the course enrollment of 475 included students taking multiple courses. Also, included was the evening school academic enrollment of 1,472, with many students also taking courses in the daytime. The East Texas Police Academy had a projected enrollment of 456 students with courses to be held in an area from Texarkana to Corsicana to Silsbee. 16
