CLASS PRGPI-IECY On a blight sunny morning in 1970 I decided to take my long awaited vacation flom the diudgciy of the office After packing mv belongings I began what I thought would be a period of relaxation Befoie beginning my Jouincy I decided to stop off at a local bookstore to purchase some material to read during my vacation Imagine my surprise when lookmg through the best known novels of the day I came upon a book entitled How to Develop Hour Muscles From Man to Moose ln Ten Easy Lessons written by none othcx than my former classmate of KHS Philip Ackerman I purchased the book for sentimental reasons and continued on my way I vs as driving along smoothly when I came upon a drawbridge that was under construction To my amazement I recognized head constiuction engxneer to be Betty Wigern standing on the top of a steel girder shouting orders to the workers in that foghorn voice of hers I would have liked to stop and chat but as this did not seem to be the Betty I had known I drove on In want of entertainment I turned the radio to my favorite radio program Bud Meyers Talent Scouts Bud, who had taken over Arthur Godfrey s Show had suddenly sprouted red hair and skyrocketed to fame As his words became distinct I heard Bud exclaimmg Want to keep your hair in place? Use Johnson s Genuine Jellied Jellac created by that world famous hair stylist Carroll better known as Chet Johnson World famous crooner Frankie Clover bow Hamson who attained glory after appearing on this show says It keeps your hair in place even when you take it oft at night and put it under your pillow After a word from Frankie our host came back on the air and introduced the uests for the evenlng Beverly Remlasoder and Eddie Meyer as the California Corn Huskers fastest yodelling team in the business After a tremendous ovation Bud started his second commercial advertising Priscilla Otteistein s up and coming business the local De Mousmg Agency Realizing I had aziived at my destxnation I drove to the local YWCA to find a place to spend the night As I the Y He said he enjoyed his work very much and he told me that Norma Matz was working for him teaching Judo I xxert to see hci and we had a long talk She informed me that she was going to challenge world famous wrestling champ Phyllis Courrier for the womans wrestling championship of the world I promised to come and see her the next night and she invited me to a benefit dinner for the 12th Street Mission tonight headed by Patty Haukoos deaconess That evening sitting at the banquet table I found that Curtis Hochreiter had prepared and donated the roast pork While talking to Norma I also discovered that he was now a world famous chef It was then bxought to my attention that the bread and rolls for the occasion were furmshed by Henry Schaper head of the Better Biscuit Baking Corporation Before the dinner was served the Rev Jerome Hoel, who had given up his career as a dancer and gone into the ministry arose and gave the blessing During the course of the meal I found my gaze wondering to the other end of table where I spotted a very stout lady whom I thought looked familiar but I Just couldn t place her I asked Norma about her and found that it was my old classmate Ruby Madsen, now known as Midget Mountain Madsen I was Just eatmg my salad when my gaze wandered from my carrots to a sxmllar color which I found to be my old friend Emll s crowning glory I couldn t resist the xmpulse to chat with hun so I changed places with the man next to him and began conversing with Emil I discovered he was now the head of the local FBI fFamous Blondes Institute of Modelingl and domg very well at it too Just then we dlscovered that everyone else was done eating and Deaconess Pat Haukoos was rising to give the benedlction Then Just as we were ready to leave a famous general and his wife appeared late as usual Why Buzz Herrick' I exclaimed, Is that really you His wife Shirley Kephart replied surely IS but please call l-im Jerry now Since he got his last four stars we ve become more dignified Why Ive even given up teaching my Phy Ed class And with that she pulled him by the ear and they left with Jerry lookmg wist fully back at us mce I had came with Norma we decided to leave together to hit some of the local hot spots As we walked -avenue we spied a twinkling slgn that spelled Snyders Golden Horseshoe Club run by our former now known as D1amond Lil Rosa Across the street on another blazing neon were the words Wacky s 1 ' D .
