Government Coyote Sunshine party cheers their candidate Jeff congratulates Skip for his presidential win. to victory. . . . V The government class experimented w1th mock sessions of governmental functions, under supervision of Mrs. J. Bathke. A political convention was held, with the class as delegates to the states of Cornflake, Coyote Sunshine, Mint-Iulep, and Pig Iron. Jeff Benzaquen represented the state of Cornflake. Skip Mencio, nominee from Coyote Sunshine, Was elected presidential candi- date of the Know-Nothingn Party, with Ava Melenyzer, favor- ite son of Pig Iron, as running mate. A mock congressional session was held and the Hatfield-McGov- ern Amendment debated. All of the students were actively in- volved in representing states and debating. An investigating com- mittee was formed with Fred Gibson and Mrs. S. Oppenheimer as guest speakers. Glenn Grisham was the chaplain during the sessions. The finale was a formal dinner party at the Cordts' home with guests attending as national or foreign officials. This successful gala ended an educational and fun experience. Three young aspirams for the nomination The active class also made a trip to Austin to visit the new LBJ. Smile to gain Votes- Library and the state capitol building.
