66444 Www The fall of 1952 we the class of 56 a green bunch of Freshmen on board the K H S Steamer set sa1l on a long r1ver voyage seek1ng our fortunes The Capta1n Norma Holst, was supported by off1cers Delbert Zmolek Mate Mary Anna Dvorak Yeoman Gayle Good Purser and Kay Moss Rad1o Operator Other crew members were Sue Barker Jack Berry Eugene Dvorak Darlene Formanek Faye Franzenburg Larry G1llesp1e Kathar1ne Hansen Jeanette Jones LaRay Kn1pp Mar1lyn Kruckenberg Jo Anne L1ddle Larry Lutz Gary Mcllrath Jo Ann Offt Peggy Posusta Torn Schallau Leander Kopecky Gerald Rasmussen and Kathryn Kenner After crossmg the equator and surv1v1ng the torments of the Semo member's 1n Neptune's Court we settled down 1nto a normal rout1ne Soon the second year of sa1l1ng on the K H S Steamer rolled around Our number was reduced to ZZ dur1ng the flrst semester as Jack Berry transferred to the SS V1nton and Kay Moss went aboard the Norway Cru1ser The second semester brought us a new member M1 s Wanda Kon1cek mak1ng us Z3 1n number Our off1cers at th1s t1me were Capta1n, Delbert Zmolek, Mate Gerald Rasmussen Yeoman Sue Barker Purser JoAnne L1ddle and Rad1o Operator Torn Schallau A new rat1ng of .Tumors was bestowed upon us 1n the th1rd year Th1S be1ng an 1mportant year to us we carefully chose new offlcers to lead us Yeoman JoAnne L1ddle Purser Mary Anna Dvorak and Rad10 Operator Sue Barker Agaln our number was reduced to ZZ by Leander Kopecky leavmg 1n the second semester The class enterta1ned the rest of the crew w1th a three act play ent1t1ed W1l11e's Weekend ' For further act1v1ty we gave the Sen1or members a banquet Our Nlght 1n Par1s was chosen as the theme and the banquet room was decorated 1n a PaI1S street scene The fourth year we atta1ned the h1ghest rat1ng of Sen1ors Our leaders of th1s 1mportant year were Capta1n Gary Mcllrath Mate Jeanette Jones Yeoman Kathryn Kenner Purser Wanda Kon1cek and Rad1O Operator Jo Ann Offt Our f1rst act1v1ty was taklng over Neptune s Court and 1n1t1at1ng the new crew of lowly Freshmen The class put on another three act play ent1tled M1ster Co ed Dur1ng th1S busy year we attended College Day and Career Day We also enjoyed a tr1p to Ch1cago The banquet held 1n our honor was bu1lt around the theme Hawa11an Cru1se Th1s h1story 1S not complete It 1S only a short chronology because now that we have completed our voyage on the R1ver of Educat1on we are faced w1th the open sea As we look at the great challenge before us Th1S quest1on runs through our m1nds Are we ready to face the Sea L1fe'P 9 I ll ll I !
