OKLAHOMA 73947 ON THE HELIUM I I F Dear Students: I We are living in a time of modern conveniences that are surpassed by no other generation. Yet, I feel we are only seeing the breakthrough of what is yet to come. I recall reading an article recently which said, Most of the jobs a which today's youth will be working tomorrow do not exist today. This is an amazing statement. Do you really unde stand what it will require of you? Many of you, no doubt, are asking the question, Why do I need to learn thisg I don see where I will ever use it. This is part of the pain of growing up and gaining an education. It is just like plowing a field. The first round see useless, but one round after another begins to stack up, and eventually the field is plowed. Education works much th same way - One step or one subject at a time soon adds up to a good education. However, if you raise the plow out of the ground every one hundred yards and then back into the ground the ne one hundred yards, you have not completely plowed the field, and it is left rough and ragged. So goes an education the person isn't willing to put his mind to work and keep after it until he has completed his education. I do not believ college is for everyone. Some need to have special training in vocational areas, but this is still an education. What you are able to do in the future depends on what you do now. Are you willing to pay the price now in order t do what is required of you in the future? I challenge you to accept the attitude to do the best you can each day in order to have a bright future. I also cha lenge you to accept the responsibility of training yourselves to lead the youth of the future. In what kind of world d you want to live? Under what form of government do you want to live? What freedoms do you want tomorrow? It is a up to you. What are you going to do with it? I challenge you to do better than we have and with the help of Go Almighty prepare now to have a great future. - Mr. Overton mfwfl Pirate . . . 4 STRIP I Q A ,I - i L A C I rl 5 s -mmf V 6 n aw-- :I Q. in 'w ,JW Q A X Ui ' tn: ug. . We asked them to recall some experiences. Some of the boys were amazed at how well football practice was organized. Though it has its bad times. there are always times when they catch passes. and all seems worthwhile. Tisa Adams Johnnie Aguilar With football came Homecoming and a few found the ei 9 uns.. -05 festivities took on a new light. Kevin Perky was named Mr. Good Guy during the activities and all were thrilled at winning the Homecoming game. Tisa Adams and Laqueta Golay were decorating lock- ers one night when they had to call Coach Thrasher to search the dark school for a culprit who wasn't there. Though they have entered an older sphere. Lynn Whisennand admitted that they brought some of their innocent pranks along to spice up school life. Danny Frisby usually goes home for lunch, but one day he was to eat in the lunchroom. They left for lunch and had sat down to eat when Danny's Dad came in and asked if it were too late for Danny to eat. Mrs. Salsman thought he wanted to take Danny home so she looked around and soon realized, with help. that Danny had not followed them. Now Mrs. Salsman counts noses everytime the class leaves the room. REF LECTIONS The annual staff asked the Second Grade to tell them Who is the most important person in your life? These are their rep- lies: Randall Bolinger - God: because I love Him. Lenora Eppard - My cousin: because he's going into the hospital to get his tonsils tooked out. It was ever his dream that intelligence and virtue be multi- plied among his people. Every spring he sent his most trusted noblemen throughout his kingdom to search out the ablest and best youths to serve at his court and represent the highest ideals of honor. In the part of his kingdom which is known as the Chapter of Keyes in the vale of Keyes High School, he once commissioned four stalwart knights to find for him the most richly endowed young people in all his land to be brought to his court and sealed by a pledge to the advancement of his cause. The knights he loved best were called Sir Scholarship, Sir Service. Sir Leadership and Sir Character. Then. said King Honor. You, my trusted thanes. know better than anybody else the qualities I value in the young people of my kingdom. Search out the neo- phytes best able to serve in all honorable adventures. When you find such a person. call out his name loud and clear and bring him to me. This year Enoch Elms was pledged a knight of the court of King Honor. Sir Scholarship. Cathy Stark. gives Enoch Elms his pin of honor. Pirate . We WwwfTlww lt was cold that December l4th. when the farmers of Keyes with their tractor caravan journeyed to Boise City to participate in the his- tory-making farmers' strike. However. the cold did not stymie the enthusiasm nor weaken the determination of this agricultural community to participate in this history-making American Agriculture event whose purpose was for l00'fL parity. Parity is the price of grain equaling pur- chasing power plus a reasonable profit. Three buses. loaded to the doors with stu- dents and sponsors. followed the tractor cortege and participated in the enthusiasm and excite- ment that seemed to take hold of each spectator as he or she watched the 100 tractors. combines. trucks. and pickups pass by. Many unique. timely slogans adorned the vehicles participating in the parade. Slogans like: Try our new diet- nothing: or Need a tax deduction? Try farming: or This is a l933 farm tractor - the same age as our farm program - adorned the farming implements on parade. The support for this movement was so strong that several of our high school students got involved in it to the point of driving some of the tractors for the farm owners. This. Not only have they played hard when they were play- ing, but they have also cheered the boys on during their games. They can look back over the past year and be very proud of the job they have done. For friends are people who stand beside you and hope your dreams come true. Friends are there to lean on, or lend a helping hand. Friends are those who will listen to you and are sure to understand. You can have many friends. you needn't have only one. I am sure that you will find out that friends are very much fun. So if you have some friends, treat them very kind.
