M Jack Smith B.S. Arts 8. Crafts ART AND CRAFTS PROVIDE CHALLENGE ln two large studios the Art Department of- fers courses in art and in crafts to students on all grade levels. Instruction in the history of design as well as the skills of painting, sculp- ture, lettering, gem stone cutting, silver and copper iewelry, pottery, plastic fabrication, textile design, and Ieathercrafts. A wide variety of power tools aid the stu- dent toward rapid completion of his projects, while numerous specialized handtools make possible many different projects with the vari- ous materials available. Students show interest in the variety and quality of proiects produced. Students in the department exhibit yearly at the East Martello Gallery and at intervals in the show case in E Building and the bulletin boards in the de- partment. MUSIC DEPARTMENT DEVELOPS TALENT The primary purpose of the Music Depart- ment at Key West High School is to contribute towards the musical educational develop- ment of boys and girls. There are many benefits offered since the music program is one of the best means of discovering and developing musical talent. Music participation provides a sense of be- longing in the school community. Music provides a strong emotional outlet and develops boys and girls into better school citizens and more dependable individuals.
