High School's Mathematics Depart- ment is attempting to reorganize its curriculum with special emphasis on its academic pro- gram. Recent changes in the world have indi- cated a need for both, a different arrange- ment of subiect matter and more work in pre- viously neglected areas. Algebras I and II classes will, whenever pos- sible, at least introduce the set theory of mod- ern algebra and will place even greater em- phasis on functional relations, variables, con- stants, etc., algebraically and graphically. The geometrics are being integrated into a one year course with an introduction to co- ordinate geometry. The latter functions parti- cularly well inthe area of locus. Trigonometry still remains a I2th year sub- iect but with correspondingly changed em- phasis, more rectors and less right triangle solutions.

Eddie Griggs B.S. American History SOCIAL STUDIES: PAST IS BUT A PROLOGUE . . The Social Studies Curriculum is set up so there is little duplication of experiences for the pupil. It is evaluated each year in order to determine the needs of the pupils and to meet these needs as adequately as possible. The faculty meets periodically to improve and add to a curriculum guide. There is an inter change of ideas here-supplementary materials are exchanged-new ideas and methods are gleaned. There is a constant striving of teachers to keep the aim in sight-to study the past to understand the present, to be aware of one's cultural heritage, to have an understanding of governmental organization, and the rights and responsibilities that go with this heritage.
