Sophomores-Getting in full swing! Freshmen-On the way up! Back: L. Nelson, Miss Elsie Kimmell. Front: J. Swain, A. Albro, and B. Elrzrorh. Overseeing the plans for our heavenly prom, featuring the theme Old South, were Nick Bernitt, president, Lynn Nelson, vice-president, Lorraine Edwards, secretary, Betty Pellan, treasurer, and Miss Elsie Kimmell as our adviser. The presentation of our junior class play, Foot-Loose, with Janet Swain and Lynn Nelson sharing the leads, proved to be a tremendous success. In the sports field Merwyn Dergins, Loring Keach, Nick Bernitt, Bob DePauw, Vince Shepherd, John Burke, Burt Eltzroth, George Himes, George Harris, Leo Saey, Buddy Ford, Mike Mirocha, John Nosal, Frank Leggins, Dick DeKeyser, Lester Ripka, W'esley Foster, Glenn VVahl, and Bud Strom carried our ban- SOON TO LEAVE THE THRESHOLD With the door of K.H.S. slowly be- ginning to swing shut on the great class of '49, the senior class chose Burt Eltz- roth as president, Lynn Nelson as vice- president, Anita Albro as secretary, and janet Swain as treasurer. Miss Elsie Kimmell again supervised our busy year. Laying out the welcome mat for the green freshies at the Freshman-Senior Reception was the first big undertaking of the year. This was followed by the sensational senior class play, A Date With Judy, starring Carol Dickson and George Legginsg and last but not least, ' our wonderful Kewanite. ners high, with Jane Kelly, Carol Dickson, Marianne Boling, and Lorraine Edwards leading the Cheers. Our senior class has also been well represented in our assemblies with Ted McElhiney calling the stu- dents to order, and Mary Ann Egert, Mary Ruth Baughman, Pat Miler, Carol Dickson, Jane Kelly, Marcia Easley, john Burke, and Lynn Nelson ex- hibiting their talent. Before leaving old K.H.S., we wish to thank all who have made our high school years a great success. We also wish each in-coming class the success and happiness that the students of the class of '49 have enjoyed. SHIRLEY AGNEW Student Council 33 F.H.A. 2, 3, 4: Homecoming attendant Z. K CHRONICLE STAFF Dishing out the news is the K staff's specialty, and they really know how to do it. After all, All-American ratings for the last five years weren't given to them for nothing. This year the staff inaugurated some inno- vations. One of them was in the way of entertainment. They sponsored a dance in the soeial room at the first of the year for all those subscribing to the paper. They also started delivering papers only to those who subscribed to the HK. The K Chronicle was eo-edited by Milli- cent Curtis and Anita Albro. Frank Mit- rani was editor of page one, assisted by jean Albro. Page two was edited by Jane Me- Daniels and Donna Kohlerg page three by Barbara Rodgers, Connie Engel, and Dorothy Henryg page four by Richard Gingrich, as- sisted by Gene Bengston. Ann jenkins and Betty Jepson served as advertising managers, with Glenn XVahl as business manager. Miss Eleanor johnson supervised the work. The Riveters, although outweighed in all their games, played good hard football and finished the season with a record of 2 wins and 5 losses. The team played a good brand of ball which shows promise of a good team for Kewanee High in the years to come. The Riveter squad was made up of 33 boys. Some of the outstanding sophomores were: Charles Addis, Gay Francis, Ar- thur Fuller, Ray Heinrich, Bill jenkins, Ralph Jensen, and Al Shepherd.
