QL assi wee C 00000 it A VOYAFL TUROIGH S NIOR ISLAND In September of 1948, a large group of boys and girls, totalling 54, met at the Welch High School to take their first lap on the Welch High School Cruiser We chose as our Captain, Mrs Mitchell The most outstanding mem bers were President, Colleen Swango Vice Presid nt, Mary Sue Durham Sect and Treas , Wannah Lee Warden Reporters, Franklin Jinks and Loretta Gamble and King and Queen, Colleen Swango and Wayne Chenoweth At the end of this year of our voyage we had a crew of 41 Twelve had left us because of sea sickness or the voyage was too long They were Charlene Calvert, Opal Foster, Betty Fueston, Jane Horn, Arnetta Russell, Jerry Brown Stella Shields, Emma Windle, Virginia Thomas, Freddean Sieland, James Bishop and Virgil Windle Maxine Armstrong, Vice President, Phyllis Carol Brady, Sect and Treasurer, Janet Blackburn, Reporters, Cherry Fox and Buddy Swango Our Captain for this year was Mrs Keithley Our King and Queen were Maxine Armstrong and Joe Woodall At the end of this year's voyage, we nad a crew of 40 We lost one member, Tommy Jennings, who found the voyage too rough and got off at the Dort when we stopped at the end of the year The third year we again chose new officers Our Captain was Miss Faris Kirk our President was Cherie Duvall Vice President, Vonnie Parks Sect and Treas , harv Sue Durham Reporters, J R McCo d and Wanda Newman Our King and Queen were Franklin Jlnks and Wannah Lee Warden At the end of this year we had a crew of 42 One new student had joined our voyage she was Jane Lackey the beginning of the fourth year, we were very much surprised when we counted the crew to find that one had quit to commit matrimony She was Dorothy Griffith Two had found the voyage too rough, they were John West and Joe Woodall We then had a crew of 56 We chose for our Captain this year Mrs Wheatley Our officers were President, Buddy Swango, Vice Presi dent, Wayne Chenoweth, Sect and Treas , Colleen Swango, Reporters Joann Fields and Cherie Duvall, our King and Queen were Phyllis Carol Brady and Bob McAffrey We lost two of our crew because of matrlmony They were Nancy Jo Brown and Jane Lackey One member, Peggy James, joined another ship Wayman Jones had joined our ship to complete the voyage At last our destination was in sight It was a long journey and a hard pgs The 54 that made it should be very proud of the award, it was well worth The ones that made it were: Maxine Armstrong, Arlene Allen, Janet Marie Blackburn, Phyllis Brady, Mary Sue Durham, Mary Emert, Joann Fields, Cherry Fox, Loretta Gamble, Doretha Griffith, Janie V.
