clara I-lie Once upon a time there was erected a building in this community. This building was not much different from other buildings in this community, except that it was larger and had more rooms in it. Each year toward the close of the sum er, many people came to this building and spent the day Upon closer examination, it was observed that there were two groups of these people, one group, which was very small in number, seemed to rule the much lar er group Later investigation, proved that the first group was cal ed the Faculty and the other the Students In the fall of 19 6 there appeared at this building a large group of young people, who asked that they might be admitted to this building and therefore learn more of what took place within its walls There were 8 of the people and they were called Fresh men As the days passed by there were certain events taking place and one was tne choosing of the leaders The president chosen was Jack Cook, Archie Neill was cnosen vice president, while James Graybeal held the position of Secretary and Treasurer Following the custom of previous years, a member of the Faculty, Mrs Pres kitt, was chosen as the sponsor, to assist them in deciding their various problems Time passed on and one day these people discovered they were no longer Freshmen They had completed the first year of work at this building at which they called day by day and now were known as Sophmores Several changes had taken place since the group first came Several of the previous members were searching through other buildings in different communities Some ceased to come because of other work while still others fell victim to Cup1d's Bow The member of the Faculty who guided tnem througatheir Sophomore year was Mr Cottam The leaders chosen were Wayne McClure, president, Paula Lindsey, Vice president, and Mary Nan Ingram, was Secretary Agair the year passed and the groul once again returned to work be ring another name This time they were known as Juniors Noth ing OL importance occured except that 1 new adviser was chosen Mrs Keithly was the one selected Cupid had again claimed a few membe s and the le der of the second year was again chosen while his helpers were Archie Neill, Vice president, and Laura Kay Anglin was chosen Secretary and Treasurer Several memvers of this group mem orized certain words and by combining them with action presented it to an audience The play was nThe Funny Brats ' 0 . Clava I-lioibty The Fall of l9h9 approached and for the last time the group be gan to come to this building The name given the group this time was Seniors They were observed to be very dignified Seniors They soon selected as their leaders Mary Nan Ingram, President, Rosemary Fottengim, Vice president, and Laura Kay Anglin was again chosen Secretary Treasurer Pvidently there president was a very able official The adviser of thls year was Mrs Wheatley The members of the group felt the need of a distinguishing mark and it had been decided that a band of metal should be worn around the finger and so it had been and the bands were selected and ordered their Junior year and were worn proudly their Senior year Another play was presented and was called NBill's Night Outn following Dennis Highsmith, Paula Lindsey, Rosemary Fottengim, Patricia Cruzan, Leon Preskitt, Denzil Corn, Nayne IcClure, Roberta Huxall, Bob Blackburn, Bertha Ruth Morgan, wary Nan Ingrar, Laura Kay Anglin, Peggy Hurst, and Bill Zimmerman The annual Queen and King selected by the class were Rosemary Cottengim and Jack Cook At the final counting the Senior King and Queen received the crowns and were crowned at the Senior Play At the end of the year 28 members were given a statement which stated that these 28 were graduates of the Welch Figh School the home of this institution was the school building It was in this building that this group was fitted for the work of Life The members of the class whom received parts in the playQwere the v I A n 'T
