I This is not just an ordinary building. Within these walls beats the pulse that makes Kermit High one of the most outstanding in Texas. That almost forgot- ten snow gave KHS an unexpected pleasure a week too late for a white Christmas. KHS had the at- mosphere of a fairy- land under a 10- inch snow that lasted almost a week. 1' 43 WM aww mlb! Ubin' 'vw' 5 , mm r M W, , r wa Man 2 'W Q Wu 'rw ln , we K. , ,f- pn. J, ,M Si Constructed only this year, the new grade school is to help relieve crowded condi- tions that existed for a short time. The junior high students attended classes in what once housed the top four grades. The inscription on the building hasn't changed, but these walls now house a younger generation. The beginners attend classes in modernistic one- story building near athletic field. Here it all begins, the years of study, play, learn- ing, and living. The high school gym- scene of exciting basketball and volleyball games, pep rallies, and musclebuilding physical training classes. The students are proud of the well-kept hardwood floors, clean walls, good equipment. When the noon bell rings the students head for the cafeteria. Here piping hot meals are served for a rea- sonable sum. Modernistic equipment and able man- agement help in its effi- ciency. f I Ml my T T A A A no s-whim. own SHOES mln' 1 J X. Experiment- ing with ideas and advice, they have worked steadily in the effort to produce the best year book in the history of KHS. Typing, pasting up and taking pic- tures, and writing copy are a few of their duties. They have racked their brains for new and original ideas that would make an annual to be proud of. Left to right: Fred Green, business manager, Nancy Mitchell, editor, Ar- thur Mullinax, Rob Mallow, sports editors, Ioyce Stephens, Wanda Madison, feature editors, Floydean Wilbum, class editor, Alma Rhodes, associate editor, Wynell Clayborn, Eloise Hunt, typists, Perry Wilder, associate business manager, Betty Boone, Ioy Moore, copy editors. The staff of photographers have re- corded in pictures the activities of Kl-IS. Without them, the Sandstorm could not have been published. Tunes of buzzing saws and hammers are often heard coming from the shop. Practical and use- ful articles as well as special art- ful gifts are constructed with the training necessary for summer jobs. Courses in plane geometry, al- gebra, and one other math are re- quired for graduation from Kermit High School. Math is considered essential in the current curriculum of every student, college or not. The math department possesses courses in general mathematics, first and second year algebra, plane and solid geometry, and trigonom- etry. The high school library composed of approximately 2,400 volumes, offers aid to all students and teach- ers on various assignments and problems, Here are found many sets of encyclopedias, reference books, dramas, poetry, and fiction, as well as issues of many current mag- azines. , ,v L mf , - ulfgf 1, -if - . ,ai ,WW Ll 'I 51, + , A 'f 4,.A ,,1 -L,, ,xy-' , ,V ,f , gf, 'i.J'1'i, 2, 1 if 11 f .f 534, T fy' .I 'I ,Z,5 3 , i fi- ' A E? .ff J L,.VV M?fff u5 fy I 7, '-5512 A , I AJ13! , , ,uw , -L K if ',gf'A2f.: A 11 J f f wc, E Qfigffg ,Q 2 , ,gwvi 54: L , f - V ,,4f7,,g ,. -1 Q, , ,,,7,t,.:.f,,gg,6,' 'g - S '- : f,y,j1:,g,-,zziz 4. These Courses enable many students to secure jobs immediately after graduation from high school. Many students, wishing to enter colleges or universities, take ad- vantage of our facilities in prep- aration for future courses. Others seeking knowledge for individual needs, as well as past gradu- ates, are allowed to enter these courses. The results of those burned fin- gers and hot, tired feelings are shown here as the girls in home economics class prove that the old, useful art of cooking has not yet completely vanished, One semester of home economics is devoted to cookingg the next to sewing, Out of these classes will come the future homemakers of America. The classes frequently entertain with teas, din- ners, and fashion shows. In their classes in the Social Science Department students learn government and history. From their study of the past these students will learn how to bet- ter build the world they are to govern, One day each week is devoted to studying current news events. kv The girls of KHS receive pointers in volleyball, baseball, tennis, pingpong and archery. Class lectures include a de- tailed study of social hygiene as well as highway safety. Here the girls learn to work togeth- er and play together. ,Q 1 'v V ,N t 3 The Physical Education De- partment provides an outlet for the energy of the students. Here instructions are offered in basketball, football, tennis, and calisthenics. Here the ideals and practices of good sports- manship are promoted. 'H ll The Department of Science offers a good foundation in chemistry, physics, biology, and general science. Here students attempt to unravel the mys- teries of plant and animal life. Here in lab work they see for themselves different chemical reactions. .1- I ,af ,iff K ef ,f?
