LEROY EDIGER Leroy Ediger was born on Jan. 31, 1940 near York, Nebraska. He attended school near Aurora, Nebraska in a oneroom school house. It was durlng the fourth grade that he really became interested in science while building a small electric motor. Popular Mechanics and Popular Science were his source of science education. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1958, and attended Tabor College. While at Tabor College he majored in Chemistry and minored in Mathematics. To earn money for college Leroy worked in construction and picked fruit during the summer. He also had a lab assistant job during the school year, After graduation he became Laboratory Super - visor at Tabor College for one year. Following their marriage, Leroy and his wife Jean both taught at Centre High School in Kansas. Leroy taught general math, geometry, biology, and chemistry. Jean taught English. He taught there for three years. In the summer of 1966 Leroy received a National Science Foundation grant to study the Natural History of California. During the six week course the class studied marine life, bird life, entomology, mammalogy geology, and botany. Each participant was required to make a collection of many specimens. During 1966-67 Leroy taught Modern Science at Washington High School in Los Angeles. He did not enjoy living in such a large city so looked for a teaching position in the Valley. In Sept, 1967 he began teaching at Kerman Jr, Hi. He really enjoyed teaching Jr. Hi. students. In 1969, with the help of lVlr. Benzler and Nlr. Fazio they began a Rocket Club. This club probably gave Leroy more pleasure and joy than any other activity. Nlany Saturdays were spent at launching rockets and many evenings were spent building them. In 1970 he at- tended an aerospace workshop which took him to NASA space center in Livermore, and Edwards Air Force Base. Asaclass project that summer he invented a model airplane for teaching the fundamentals of flight. The Edigers have two children, Doug is an eighth grader and Kari is a seventh grader at Yosemite Jr. Hi. in Fresno. During 1970-73 Leroy enrolled in a correspondence course in electronics. As a hobby he repairs electronic equipment such as radios and TV's. Other hobbies include photography, woodworking, oil painting, and reading. Each summer since 1974 he has directed the summer school program at the Elementary school. He received his administrative credential in 1976 and was appointed vice-principal at the Jr. Hi, in the fall of 1976. Since January 3, 1978 Leroy has been Principal of Kerman Intermediate School. :XX P5 i s '. To" .1 N9 .X 3- as. We also went to IVIercer's Cavern near IVlurphy's California. Here we had an opportunity to see the wonders of nature under the surface ofthe earth. The group had been divided and as we toured Colombia and Mercer's Cavern, the other group was taking part in nature hikes and forest studies. The evening hours were confined to camp with such activities as recreation, music and classroom studies. The lighter side of the weeklong trip were the after hours events. A time for relaxation for the students and counsellors alike. The counsellors were allowed to use the gym and the students, Well, let's just say the pillows saw a lot of action. Fun and Adventure? They had to - worry about face and voice ' expression, enunciation, eye contact, and how not to come unglued when Mrs. Hampton grabbed them by the leg to move them over a few inches! Joe Wirt, Albert Brewer, Mike Salvador, Kelly Howery, and Rick Gonzales not only did their duty as reporters, but also camera men. It was their responsibility to hook up that electronic mess and make sure that it recorded. There are only ese folks worked hard meeting deadlines for News, Views and Interviews. One picture is worth 1000 words Tom! about 13 hook-ups to be made in recording and broadcasting, but what goes where? A few times the electronic expert, Mr. Ediger had to come in and undo several goofs! When the class isn't learning big words like "orthicon" and "electromagnetic", these versatile reporters could be seen showing their artistic abilities. They painted sets for the drama productions and signs to advertise events around the school. Joe Wirt and Albert Brewer also wrote articles for the Lion's Roar in the Kerman News. One ofthe first plays was "Comeback Caper", starring Bobby Kessler and Tony Ayerza as a pair of bumbling thieves V who sneaked into an all-girls school by mistake. They are 44 met head-on by grouchy old .7 lv , school teachers, Kim Amos v 1,9 and Judy Barcelos. Judy gets a pie in the face by rich snob- bish Jan Russell who is really aiming at Jill McNabb. Jill is backed up by all the other school girls played by: Nichole Boston, Kelly Pederson, Kathy Cook Gabrielle Gould, Christine Clark and Maggie Brazil. A surprise character actor was Wayne Brown who as a cowboy could almost twirl a gun and sing! DU N IT" centered around the theft of a ruby owned by actress Shawna Hintz. Everyone was suspected by policemen, Keith Lea and Jody Perry - including: Director, Joe Baptistag Secretary, Jan Halstead, and hippie lightman, Tom Mitchell. But TV Personalities, Leslie Armstrong and Chad Troxclair, really seem guilty during cross examinations. Writer, Kim Ahlenslager helps to solve the crime when she sets a snare to trap the suave Mike Sciaqua and reporter Melanie Stilson. When Mike makes a break for it in a hail of bullets, there are plenty of action shots. The Drama class made all of our rallies come alive with their skits and dance routines. "Star Dance" was a sock hop that will long be remembered. Many people came dressed as their favorite star and some even put on a mock performance, Drama was full of talent and what they did lack in talent they made up for in enthusiasm.
