He moved to Exeter dur- ing the Christmas Holidays. A farm in Lewisville, Texas 20 miles from Dallas was Mr. Curtis' birthplace. He moved to Oklahoma at age 19. He met his wife Marie while they were plowing in opposite fields. He drove a street car in Oklahoma City for one-fourth of his life and then moved West to California. Since then he has had four boys and a girl and became an enthusiastic participant in the Methodist Church, enjoys Christian books, and taught a church class. Mr. Curtis' interest in large vehicles provided him with the knack to run them with capable and careful hands. He spent many hours at Kerman High and made good use of his free time by canal fishing and glass cutting. Mr. Curtis' character around school was gentile and quiet. He was a steady and conscientious worker. He never hesitated to smile and say hello and will be remembered by all who knew him. The Yearbook Staff proudly dedicates this annual to Mr. Curtis and warmly thanks him for all his kindness. .., s . x'?A Every day has been so slzorf, Every lrour so lleeflng. The KYNO Dance Contest pulled school spirit together early in the year. With hopes high for winning, the student body suHered the harsh set-back of not even reaching the top eight. The football team under new coach Leonard Mazorra, rallied the support of the community and school early in the sports season. Tension was high as the Lions approached that deciding home-coming game against Caruthers. Kerman High was sprinkled with new faces both on the faculty and in the student body, along with those new faces, came a new and more lively spirit to the school. EMO TIONS' The Juniors faced the state-required tests with the nonchalance of, I've got another year, while the Seniors sweated through them to graduate, still thinking forward to their college entrance tests. The Freshmen as usual, wandered around campus with bewildered facesg while the Sophomores settled into their newfound routine, to wait out the final three years. . . .each with his own identity. aff' The Yearbook Sfaff Really Hung in There Gang. After a record of 1 win and 4 losses in non-league play the Lions found a victory by defeating the Laton Mustangs to start league play- Tradition was broken when The Lions, after nine discouraging years, came out victorious over Riverdale, 20-12. The highlight of the season was the homecoming victory against Caruthers. The impressive 41-13 victory wrapped up the league Title for the Lionsg only to lose the Divisional Title to Woodlake, 33-6. The Lions finished the season by having 8 team players making all-league and 3 honorable men- tions. What she had left ten hours earlier in New Zealand . . . an island, winter weather, sheep, 50 of rain, mountainous terrain, boarding school, rugby, fish and chips, a country of 3 million people . . . A contrast--but what was similar for Allison and the people she met were the high hopes for the forthcoming year, the enthusiasm to encounter ideas and people the American Field Service experience would offer. A sheep ranch, 30 miles from Masterton, was Al1ison's home in New Zealand. Across the ocean in Kerman she lived in her new home with the Gordon Cowan family. She had attended a coed public school, Wairarapa College in Masterton for four years and boarded at Purnell, a mile from the school. Allison exchanged ideas on education and commented that her New Zealand school was more academic than Kerman. Girls participated on an almost equal basis as the boys in a variety of sports. Allison liked the casual rapport between students and teachers in our school and tried her best to learn Spanish, understand football, and attend classes new to her. Those who were able to meet Allison will remember her interest in people, warm personality and very, very small handwrit- ing. I wouldn't have a clue what this is.
