Many student council members were very busy in preparation for the School Accreditation which was held this year. Eight student council members attended the Leadership Day which was held at San Joaquin Memorial on Nov. 26th. Prison life, morals, and student unrest, were among the many topics discussed. The night brought a spirited crowd, and frigid winds. The cold made it difficult for the Royalty to stand still, as th crowning took place. The Royalty rode in the luxury of new Chevrolets from Simms. With the stage set, the Kerman Lions ran over the Parlier Panthers with a 24-6 victory. 'Tile Bizieff arrives. This year under the direction of head coach Dennis Lindsey the football team had a successful season. They won four games while losing four and tieing one. The highlights of the season were: the tieing of highly rated Dinuba in the final nine secondsg 12 to 12 and the 14 to 7 victory over McFarland. The other victories were over Parlier 24 to 6, Laton 44 to 14, and Lindsay 22 to 14. Their play was characterized by hard hitting and determination. Their well balanced offense was never shut out in any of their nine starts. Their stubbom defense was the key to holding seven of their opponents to 14 points or less. This year seven players earned red-hats. The red-hat signifies superior performance. They were Richard Silvas, Russell Hamilton, Greg Greenman, Lino Garza, Norberto Cantu, Dan Stilson, and Jim Brager. Richard Silvas and Jim Brager were chosen to represent Kerman on the All League team. Greg Greenman, Russell Hamilton, and Lino Garza received honorable mention by the coaches. The most valuable player award went to Jim Brager. Lino Garza received the most valuable lineman. The best offensive player went to Russell Hamilton. The most inspirational player was Norberto Cantu. The Kerman Lions J.V. football team came out with a record of 2-7 which was pretty good considering that they ended up with only 13 boys on the team. They started practicing with the Varsity team in August. Prospects didn't look good after 46-0 loss against Lindsey in the first game. When the going gets tough the tough get going, so the boys did not quit. They practiced harder than ever under our fine coaches. In the second game they did much better against Dinuba winning 18-6. The league game started and things got better with a 24-0 victory over Laton. J .Vfs lost their four last games. Bruno Lometti was chosen by the team as the best offensive player and also the most valuable player.'David Zumwalt was chosen as the best defensive player and Scott Foth and Dean Priest were chosen as the co-captains. Priest catches a touchdown pass. Freshmen Struggle This year the freshmen players were introduced to the riggors of high school football by coach Tom Cuadros. Emphasis was not only on such things as tackling, running, and blocking, but also on an all important feature, discipline. Offensively, the team was led by John Kampschmidt, the quarterback, and Ramiro Cantu, a halfback. The team's defensive leaders were Clark Salenik and Dan Nikitrn. Even though the freshmen team wasn't in any defined league or conference, the coaches set up four games for them. They had a potentially good team, but bad breaks kept them from winning any ball games. The best they could do was a tie with Tranquillity in the season opener. The next two games were with Central and Coalinga. They ended the season with a tough loss to Tranquillity, Kerman defense combines to smother Tranquillity man. - .. . ,. WW., . . ,.H,..,. , K ...i. This year the Pep Girls enjoyed wearing their unifomis to school on game days, but when the weather turned nippy, regret was in the air. Their outfits were entirely new and the girls made pom-poms by hand. The girls raised money by having a raffle on Homecoming and having several car washes. New routines were developed resulting in every day practice after school. Decorating the boys' locker room, making orange cubes for the team, plus helping paint posters for the rallies, were included in the Pep Girls' week-long project. In February, the girls were determined to do their best at the Reedley College Pep Girl Competition but the squad came home discouraged with a fourth place ribbon, and a lot of lessons learned.
