ALTON U. FARNSWORTH l,8. Syracuse University Supervising Principal , The Class of '47, as spokesmen for the entire school, have extended a welcome to lr. Farnsworth, and we also would like to extend, now as we leave, our very best wishes for future success. Kerhonkson Students: Every activity of a school, be that activity a part of the formal curriculum or of the type known as 'extra-curricularu should have objectives. I believe that schools exist for many worthwhile purposes. A sound basis of formal education is often stated as the primary goal a school should have. This may be true to some degree. I consider one objective on a par tith or somewhat above this goal. This is the train- ing of youth for life after school-days are over. It is true - that this is accomplished to some extent in the class-room. However, problems faced in school outside the class-room are often most like the adult problems that must be solved later. Whether it be in the class-room, in student government, on the playing field or in cooperative club and class enterprises, the student is constantly faced with problems and situations he will re-face often as an adult. The task of the school is to bring the student to face his problems, to think matters through and arrive at at true solution. This may seem too ideal but I am sure that if you will look back on this year you will see this philosophy running through all our activities. You have had the opportunity to participate in class, home-room and extra-class activities. If you have performed to the best of your ability and YOU are satisfied with your honest answers when you ask yourself the questions 'Have I triedu? and 'Have I always given my bestn? !0U have been successful. ly wish for you is that your school experiences may be such that you will be worthwhile and high-type citizens in the world of tomorrow .
