COMMENCEMENT PLANS Dr. Arthur S. Taylor from the Southern Oregon College of Education at Ashland will deliver the Commencement address and has chosen for his topic The Problems of Victory. The program will be held on Thursday evening, May 27, in the High School Gym- nasium. The stage will be moved from the West end to the East end of the gym for this occasion. M Iss ELINOR HATCH BACCALAUREATE Baccalaureate services for the-Seniors took place Sunday, May 23, in the Commun- ity Church at Cave Junction. Rev. George Gray preached a very appropriate sermon using as his subject, What Shall It Profit a Man? Three Senior girls, Joyce Payne, Barbara Byrne, and Janet Martin sang, ln The Gardenu and Mrs. Dorothy Gray sang Have You Counted the'Cost? JUNIOR - SENIOR PROM I The Junior-Senior Prom was held in the gymnasium on Friday evening, May 21st, in a very unique setting arranged by the Junior Class. A wishing well with its sur- rounding garden of roses occupied the East end of the gym while the stage in the West end was turned into a portico of a Southern mansion with green lawn in front. The musicians, performing their duties to perfection, played from this portico. .About mid-evening the men were permitted to vote for a Prom Queen to be chosen from the Senior girls. Joyce Payne was the lucky girl and was crowned by Bob- Wendt, Student Body president. A grand march followed the crowning ceremony. Luncheon of cake and punch was furnished the guests just before the close of the Prom. f Mr. and Mrs. Lew Hammer and Mr. and Mrs. George Martin were special guests of the evening. The Junior Class is to be complimented for the artistic decorations and the fine program provided.

GIRLS' LEAGUE ACTIVITIES The first Girl's League meeting on October 2, 1942, was for the purpose of elect- ing officers for the first semester. Those elected were: . A LICE SMITH The first activity was a Big and Little Sisterls Party, which was held on October 30, 1942. The older girls revealed their identity by presenting gifts, with their names at- tached, to their curious little sisters. Previous to this date the big sisters wrote helpful little notes in disguised writing to their little sistersf' The Girl's League Follies was presented on the evening. of November 8, 1942. It proved an evening of entertainment which consisted of: A Skit and Songs by the Freshmen, A Skit and a song by the Sophomore Classg A Song Review by the juniors, and a Radio Broadcast by the Seniors. The proceeds of the program amounted to 353750. .N The Girl's League sponsored a Christmas Party on December 24, 1942, during thelast periods of the afternoon. Gifts were exchanged and the remainder of the afternoon was spent in singing, accompanied by Peggy Haberman at the piano. P EGGY HABERMAN rMOTHER'S TEA Sixty-five mothers of the high school students attended the Girls' League Mothers' Tea at Kerby High School, Friday, April 30th. just inside the entrance of the building a committee of League Girls welcomed each mother bylpresenting her with a corsage of vari-colored flowers. Other girls then ushered the mothers to the science room where they viewed a motion picture, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrowf' depicting the his- tory of the processing of foods by canning. just before the picture was shown, Yvonne Payne, Girls' League president, gave the address of welcme on behalf of the League and students. Mrs. Chris Wendt responded for the mothers. After the pictures the mothers adjourned to the gymnasium where a large sign of WELCOME MOTHERS, at the East end of the gym greeted them. The sign was made of fir boughs and white lilacs, by Elva Messenger. After all mothers were seated comfortably the program proceeded with a style show by the junior Home Economics girls. The Girls' Glee club, under the direction of Miss Hatch, sang Emblem of Liberty, Aloha, and i'Mother.', After the program, tea and dainty sandwiches were served to the mothers and other guests from decorated tables. The girls worked under the leadership of Miss Laura Bailey, Home Economics teacher. l l
