The proper perform- ance of whose duties, insures the welfare and happiness of thc crew. A Yeoman has the responsibility of keeping ser- vice records up ro date, sending requests through proper channels, and transmitting proper forms and letters in order to advance men in rating and pay. A Yeoman must be familiar with official letter and re- port forms, routing of naval correspondence, and the Navy filing system. He performs typing and clerical duties, prepares reports, maintains office records and files and operates office machinesg is an expert on naval regulations, manuals, circular let- ters. and directives: is in charge of personnel records and furnishes information on ratings, insurance. transportation, and promotions. The Yeoman is also responsible for preparing the proper forms for enlistment, discharge or reenlistment. A person de- ciding to make the Navy a career. or go back to ci- vilian life depends on the typewriter and the man behind it - the Yeoman. The Supply Oflicer is responsible for the procurement, receipt, stowage, issue and accounting for equipment, repair parts and consumable sup- plies required by the ship. The Supply Officer is also responsible for disbursing government funds, pav- ment of bills. paving the crew, and accounting for funds. He is in charge of the general mess and su- pervises the Ship's Store and the issue of clothing and small stores. Here is the pulse beat of the ship, from here comes the salary of each ofhcer and crew member. Directly or indirectly, maintettante, in each of the Kepj1Ir'r's departments, depends on supply. Here are the cooks. supplying nourishment and morale, since morale often leans solely ttpon meals. Here are the laundrvmen, ship's service operators and stewards. Here, on the lx'f-pjzlm' is the medical gang. The men comprising these departments are the nerve-center of the ship, affecting each and every man on the ship. The bakers make all the desserts whether it is pie, pudding or what have vou. lVhen at sea all bread is baked by them. These two men usually do tlteir work during the night. The cooks handle the feeding of three squares a day for the crew. A Chief is in charge of the gal- ley and he and his crew make the menus, prepare and supervise the serving of food at all times.
