Kelly When the books close, and the last bell rings, And carefree days are lost to other things-- When nostalgia strikes, and your memory wanes And you remember the faces but not the names- Pick up your COMMENT and leaf it through, And remember the days so dear to you. This year, for the first time, K. H. S. and the com- munity have had the privilege and experience of having a foreign exchange student. To the ideals for which Imran and others like him represent, we, the Comment Staff wish to dedicate this yearbook. Through acquaintance with and understanding of these students, and by acquiring more knowledge of their countries and customs, we strive to achieve the supreme goal of world peace and unity--world brotherhood. The Student Council, the governing body of K. H. S., is composed of a repre- sentative from each homeroom, who meet to plan and discuss school affairs. Throughout the school year, this group is quite active sponsoring some of the many activities that make up our busy school life. A few of their projects this year have been sponsoring the foreign exchange student, the dances after the games, and the Jack Frost Formal. They have concurred with other schools in Iowa in joint conferences aimed at betterment of relations between schools. Perhaps the most outstanding result of these conferences has been the composition of the Sportsmanship Code. 70164 TORCH CLUB: FRONT ROW: K. Young, S. Beckert, R. Willis, J. Billings, J. Ames, B. S. has presented two full length plays this year. The Junior Class play Teach Me How to Cry had a relatively small cast, and after overcoming many obstacles, such as scenery, the play was enjoyed by the audiences. The Thread That Runs So True consisted of one of the largest casts and crews ever to present a play at K. H. S. The 1958 Chiefs suffered a hard-luck season. Four games were lost by a total of 15 points. Had these games been won, the Chiefs would have finished in first place in the revised Little Six Conference. Throughout the year, the team was hampered by serious injuries which reduced the effectiveness of the team. McQuiston, Williams, and Lockett were named to the All-Conference first team, while Shoe- maker and Amon were placed on the second team. McQuiston was chosen as guard for All-State first team. In addition to these honors, Earl was All-West, as se- lected by the TEEN MAGAZINE, and fourth team All-American, by the SPORTING NEWS MAGAZINE.
