Factionalism doesn't have any great benefits but Iive never seen the Blacks or the Greeks or anyone in particular cause a disturbance to any other group . . . it would be better to try to interact but sometimes one group just doesn't want to interact and when you try and force yourself upon them, then you start getting conflict. fGerassimakisj A' . . . I never pay much attention to factionalism. I guess Iim just one of those people - they sit in their group and I sit in mine. QNormanj M . . . Frat people just turn me off so do sorority chicks, they've got this identity thing. I think they have some pressure from the other sisters that if you donit go out with a guy who looks good, has a good name or dresses flashy, you know if you go out with the kind of guy who wears sneakers all the time, they kind of frown on itf, fGuyonj . . . If you get caught up in a group itis sometimes more of disad- vantage than an advantage because you only become aware of what's go- ing on in your group you donit know anything about the outside, and most of the time Blacks hang with Blacks., Whites with Whites, and Arabs with Arabs, because that's just something theyire used to doingf' fFergusonj 22fIntroduction x

What separates my actions from those of an animal? Animals tend to get excited about thingsg as a YSU student, I don't get excited about much. There's not a great deal of passion involved in what I'm do- ing. I waste a great deal of time. Animals don't waste their time. fPefferJ ' . . . I think humans identify with animals . . . the way they approach things . . . the only thing that places us above them is that . . . we know more about them than we know they know about us. fFergusonj . . . An animal survives to basically satisfy his needsg as students . . . we seek not only to fulfill our needs but we also try to achieve a mental state . . . to achieve more th- an past generations.
