. :7 KENTUCKY STATE WINS y SECOND AIA TITLE The Kentucky State College THoRoBREDs took con- trol of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Tournament championship game from its outset and breezed to its second straight NAIA national championship with a 102 - 82 thrashing of Eastern Michigan in Kansas City. Travis Grant, a 6'8 forward from Clayton, Ala- bama set a new NAIA tournament field goal record of 77 two-pointers, while pacing the THOROIERED win over Eastern Michigan with 43 points. The old Held goal record was 72. I Q Grant and 7'0 All-American Elmore Smith were named to the all-tournament team and Grant was the overwhelming choice for the tournament's Most Valu- able Player award. William Graham was selected to the second all-tourney team. Behind the 25. point performance of Grant, Ken- tucky State eased into a 57-40 half-time lead and was never challenged during the entire contest. A NAIA Coach of the Year Lucias Mitchell had the THOROBREDS eager to get at the Michigan team and State responded with a sound beating of Michigan.
