Family: My congratulations are extended to all students who are preparing themselves for that great calling of service to the Lord. Whether it be as minister, missionary, Christian teacher,- or aworker in some other church activity, my best wishes and prayers go with you as you strive to do the work of Christ. Ours is abig task--that of taking the Gospel message unto the uttermost part of the world. Let us never forget, though, that we have help, we have the assistance of men and women every- where who are of like precious faith, too, we have the abiding presence of the Christ Who promised to be with us unto the end of the world. Together we move into the job of world evangelism with Christian zeal, fully realizing the job before us, but not forgetting the Power behind us. Let us work together in behalf of our Lord. A master teacher and friend. In gratitude, respect, and appreciation we wish to dedicate this issue of the Marturian to our coach and professor, Loran A. Dace. Brother Dace is a staunch individualistg his opinions are well formulated, and he is unashamed of them. In the classroom his goal is not to transfer a voltune of notes horn my paper to the studenLs's paper, without causing the ideas to pass through either mind, but rather to cause the student to think, to manipulate ideas, to draw his own conclusions. I-Ie coaches the K. C. C. Knights to victory more often than not. In his Friday classes he always admonishes the students to Preach the Word , on Sundays he preaches at Ailles Chapel. The welfare of the school is always on his heart for he is K.C. C. 's biggest fan. He is an avid racing enthusiast fand looks remarkably like A. I. Foytjg he enjoys listening to the Tijuana Brass. Now you know the facts--we students know the man, and are the richer for it. ---,,-..,., r... .. Since that time she has on occasion acted as Dean of Women and Assistant Registrar. She lends aid to all the girls Whether it be in the form of assistance in planning a Priscilla meeting or of just being a friend. Truly K. C.C. is blessed of God to have Mr. and Mrs. Lusby as our spiritual leaders. q,'X, 'cz' JAMES LOWELL LUSBY LELA STONE LUSBY J, L. : Dr. J. Lowell Lusby received an A. Mr. Lusby has served ably as our College president for over thirty years. Length of service is not the only criterion by which he can be judged however. During his presidency the College has grown from a small struggling school into one of the most respected institutions of higher learning in our brotherhood. 'K' --,U g Ffasy JACK MILO BLIFFEN g Jack: Professor Bliffen has been with us as a teacher since 1959. He was graduated from K.C.C. in 1951 and then obtained his M. At present he is teaching Practical Ministries courses, but teaching is only the beginning of his duties. Since then she has shown herself to be a dedicated and energetic worker, for at nearly any hour of the day she may be found in the cataloging room repairing books and sorting and filing new materials. But more than a hard worker, she is a friend ofthe students. Especially do we appreciate her talents when the time arrives for us to start on our term papers! - 1 .il y ', Q .. In her spare time she is generally found knitting in er trailer,- proofreading this yearbook, or even running the circle to keep in shape. ,r '27 '- !'in-hifi' W' LORAN ARTHUR DACE Coach: Professor Dace--a minister, teacher, scholar, coach, friend. He is the person most responsible for the fact that all K.C.C. graduates can preach. Besides carrying out his teaching duties, Pro- fessor Dale acts as Dean of Students. He does all of the school's printing in his own shop. In addition, he ministers to the Farmers Church of Christ. : 'J v 'R V c 'L ,xx f t KERNS RONALD EGGLETON Rona Although Professor K. R. Eggleton has been with us as a professor for only four years, he has made a lasting impact on the teaching ministries of our students. After he received an A.B. from K.C.C. in 1960, he obtained an M. Ed. from the Uni- versity of Pittsburgh where he has also completed the resident requirements for his Ph. D. On weekends he preaches at the Peeled Oak Christian Church in addition to heading our Christian Education Department during the week. Between classes he is invariably seen either playing ping pong, drinking coffee, or discussing philosophy--and maybe all three at once. 41 . THOMAS JAMES GEMEINHABT Mr, G. : Volleyball champion, history scholar, missions promoter, Mr. Gemeinhart is a hard-working man. As head of both History and Missions Departments he finds plenty to keep him occupied, yet always has apleasant word for all. In addition to teaching seventeen hours a week, Mr. Gemeinhart is sponsor of the Matheteuo Mission Society and the Utopian Literary Society. Mr. Gemeinhart is a 1959 graduate of K.C.C, and became a member of the faculty after receiving his Masters Degree from Indiana University. He returned to us in 1967 after a year's leave of absence to work on his Ph. D. at the University of Kentucky. in l .11 -.1 VW ELLEN LAVEBN KAI-RNS Kixie: Miss Karns became head of our Music Department in 1954 after she had graduated with a B.S.L. from C.B.S. and taken studies at Butler University and the Manhattan School of Music. Inaddition to teaching regular classes in Music Theory, Conducting, Mixed Chorus, Concert Choir, and Chalk Art, she gives piano and voice lessons. All of the singing ensembles that are sent out from the College to give specials are organized and coached by her, and each year hers is the responsibility of preparing the concert choir tour. LA l.?..Fr:7:.-ff . 7' ' t . 'V W n U- . MAJEL LUSBY KELLEY Maje1: Mrs. Kelley has been teaching our English, German, and Shorthand classes since 1935. She is well qualified, having received an A. Lusby, was the co-founder and first president of Kentucky Christian College. In 1928 Mrs. Kelley herself Went to Japan as a missionary. i 1 1 .fi fl lf.. LEWIS METCALFE MILLER Metcalfe: Professor Miller is our newest addition to the K.C.C. faculty. As such his most difficult task this year is probably to adjust to K. C. C. life. He has no doubt been helped in this by his scholastic background. He has an A. B. from Johnson Bible College, a B.D. from Lexington Theological Seminary, and has studied at C.B. S. and Butler University. Besides teaching several Bible courses, he teaches Hermeneutics and Comparative Religion. Though one of our more scholarly professors, he is certainly one of the friendliest. ALICE ANNETTE MORGAN Big Al: Miss Morgan received her A.B. from K.C.C. in 1941 and her Masters from Marshall University, then took studies at Butler University and Ohio University. She returned to K.C . C . to teach. Since then she has been more than busy with her work for the College. At present she teaches Biology, English Literature, and American History. Her work does not end with the school year, though, for she also has year-round duties as our Registrar. Besides working in the office and being one of our favorite professors, she teaches the Loyal Berean Sunday School class in the church uptown. S, A DONALD ALLEN NASH D. A.: Professor Nash, who was graduated from K.C.C. with an A.B. and later receivedaB. D. at the Butler School of Religion, has taught New Testament and Greek for nineteen years, and is known throughout the brotherhood as a scholar in both fields. Besides having written numerous articles for LOOKOUT nnd CHRISTIAN STANDARD, he is the author of the textbook used in his Greek class. This year he is again a sponsor of the Utopian Literary Society, a task he fulfills in addition to preaching at the Salyersville Church of Christ. ' .'-,L - 1 ll -- it v :I ,, .l Lester: Brother Pifer, because of his unique position on our staff, is probably seen on campus less than any other member of the administration. In 1943 he left K. C. C. as a graduate and entered the ministry. After twenty-three years' experience pastoring in Sturgis, Kentucky, Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Martins Ferry, Ohio, and Lancaster, Ohio, he returned to the K. C. C. family, this time as Director of Development. This work, which sends him presenting the College to many churches? in several states, leaves little time for him to spend with his family, Mrs. Pifer and their four daughters. Father J ohn: John Eggleton joined the faculty of K.C.C. in 1957 as a professor in the Old Testament, Philosophy, and Hebrew Departments. He received his A.B. from K.C.C. in 1954, then obtained a B.D. at the Butler School of Religion and an M.A. at Western Reserve Uni- Versity. He is now on a leave of absence to obtain his Ph..D. from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where he is now living with his wife and two boys. Mr. Gil1um: Virgil Gillum, since his return to K.C.C. in 1964 as the Comp- troller, has become one of the most be- loved members of the K.C.C. Family. He attended Junior College at the C . N. I. , then went on to get a B.S. at Milligan. He further studied at Western State Col- lege. Though his official duties confine him to longhours in the Business Gffice, every student on campus is enriched and encouraged by the living example of this man of God. i Ng? 1- Mrs. Perkins: From the South Akron Church of Christ, Mrs. Iris Perkins came this year to serve as Assistant Dean of Women. She also works part time on the secretarial staff. Her daughter, Nancx attends High School in town, and one of her three sons, Greg, is a junior at K.C.C. TS.- OUTR GIRLS FROM HEAD TO TOE. Mrs. Christian: Forsake not the love of thy mother. fProverbs 1:81. The girls of Neal Hall know the wisdom of this admon- ition from Solomon, especially pertaining to dorm mothers. Mrs. Ruth Christian be- came a dorm mother in 1966. ln Neal Hall last year, she gained '70 daughters in ad- dition to her three girls, who are married and have families of their own. Mrs. Ritchie: Mrs. CarlosRitchie is our dietician, and hers is the responsibility of seeing that nearly two hundred students are fed seven days a week. From her, many students receive their first taste of authentic Kentucky cooking. However, the students are shortly trained to look forward to Sunday dinner, when the food is always just a little more delicious than on weekdays. Peggy: In 1964 the K. C. C. staff acquired a new asset when Miss Peggy Russell became our assistant dietician. No one who has at- tended a banquet for which she has cooked will deny her cooking ability. She cooks on week- ends alternatingwith Mrs. Ritchie, and also surpervises the kitchen help. She is presently working toward her B. S. Degree. At the East Side Church of Christ, she directs the youth and leads the singing., Mrs. Smith: Mrs. Edna Smith came to K.C. C. in 1962 to be Dorm Mother for Neal Hall. Although she has had the ex- perience of rearing five daughters, we are sure the girls of K.C.C. have presented some unique challenges to her. Apparently she takes them all in good humor, however, for she greets everybody with a big smile and a friendly hello. ETL? i iso Manners????????? ' '17 1 Who, me too? Kesler playing Cupid! Q 45 -5' One of the most exciting highlights of last year was the Imperials' visit to campus. Sponsored by two seniors, George Markey and J im Rackham, the Imperials inspired and thrilled us with their hour- longicon- cert. As a result of their enthusiasm, versatility, and sincerity, many consider them to be the greatest quartet in Gospel singing today. We believe all music is heaven-born and comes from God, said Jake Hess, the manager and lead singer. The only thing that the devil gets out of it is the sinful Words and the way it's pre- sented. Once his fellowship we enjoyed Once his company we shared. Once we knew of his concern for all And how much for us he truly cared. We can ne'er forget the kindness he showed Toward us in so many ways. And, even though he is no longer here, We can cherish those happier days. To us Morgan was an example Of how considerate a Christian can be To others, and how we can help them To remove the darkness and be able to see-- That there is good in the world remaining And that everything is not all bad, That we should discard our frowns and be happy Then no longer complaining and sad. So as Morgan has gone before us He has left us a job to fulfill For us to live for others and to help them And above all to do God's will. I hope that you enjoy reading it and that it will bring many memories of the good 'ole college days back to mind as you ponder over these pages. There are so many people to be thanked that I feel I may leave someone out.
