150 years ago, Hardin County was a vast expanse of trees with few settlers. Our forefathers established the county from territory then belonging to Logan County and began the task of “taming” the wild frontier. The lure of good farm land brought many new people to the area and with them came all the other people needed to supply goods and services. The population expanded and reached a peak of about 32,000 where it has remained with little change to the present. In 1870 the first graduation was held at Kenton High School with only 4 graduates. The class of 1983 is the 113th graduating class of Kenton High School. To celebrate the Sesquicentcnnial of the County, the Kenton School along with many other county schools, held an “old-fashioned day of school. Many faculty members wore historic costumes from the late 1800's and taught lessons that students in school at that time would have been learning. 24 SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
