The class of 1984 got a “late” start on the prom this year, but still presented a great dance. The decorations were very well done and interesting. Thanks to the Juniors for a night to remember. 20 Junior-Senior Prom Junior-Senior Prom 21 GRADUATION 1983 The Kenton Board of Education and Graduation guests: Mr. Tim Poland, President of the Board; Mr. Don Heilman; Mr. John Murray, High School Principal; Dr. Emil Vavrik, Superintendent of Schools; Rev. Mark Crates, graduation speaker; Mr. Tom Brim, Dr. Jay Pfeiffer, Mr. Lowell Hare, Vice-president of the Board. Miss Deborah Brooks, Class speaker. Miss Aida Shepherd, Class Speaker. 22 Graduation 1983 Graduation 1983 23 150 years ago, Hardin County was a vast expanse of trees with few settlers. Our forefathers established the county from territory then belonging to Logan County and began the task of “taming” the wild frontier. The lure of good farm land brought many new people to the area and with them came all the other people needed to supply goods and services. The population expanded and reached a peak of about 32,000 where it has remained with little change to the present. In 1870 the first graduation was held at Kenton High School with only 4 graduates. The class of 1983 is the 113th graduating class of Kenton High School. To celebrate the Sesquicentcnnial of the County, the Kenton School along with many other county schools, held an “old-fashioned day of school. Many faculty members wore historic costumes from the late 1800's and taught lessons that students in school at that time would have been learning. 24 SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION Jim Lightner came to school on the most common means of transportation students might have had available to them in the early days of the County. SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION 25 OHIO HI-POINT VOCATIONAL SCHOOL The Ohio Hi-Point JVS enrolls over 80 Kenton High School students in its vocational and technical programs. Students attend for a period of two years in the area of their choice. Matt Aufdencamp Stephanie Foul Michelle Tackett, Lisa Route Humphries.
