The Kenton High School BEFORE the village of Kenton reached its first birthday a school was established in a cabin on Ohio street. During the next few years other cabins were needed to accommodate the growing school population. In 1842, the present site of the Grammar School building was purchased by mem- bers of the board of education. Two little frame structures were put up and here in the winter of 1842-43, James Holmes and Chauncey Drumn taught school.

The first union schools were conducted on the second fioor of the building now occupied by the Kenton Savings Bank. But the school population increased rapidly and soon there was need for more adequate buildings. In 1894 the necessity of better high school facili- ties was recognized. The present building was completed and ready for occupancy immediately after the holidays in January 1896.
