'PM Class History The illustrious history of the Class of '31 dates back from a bright September morning in 1919, when a hundred small lads Hllil lassies IIlhlg0d off to schooL There is very little to be told of the first few years of our school career. For the most part the days were uneventful, but it was here that uwzreceived the fUlUHlHthH1 for our inarked progressdn the field of knowledge. Mr. ll. li. Clark became head of the Ken-ton Public Schools when we wcre in the first grade. Mr. Clark has been of most helpful service to the class during the past twelve years. Then we entered the Grammar Schooland felt that we were really going up. '.l'hia.t was the year that our own Bolly was a sweet little groom in a home talent show. We were so proud of him! The next year passed rapidly and we were exposed to more won- ders of education. In tlhe seventh grade we were joined by the classes from the Espy and East buildings. The same year, the more talented ones of the class broke into tlhe Eighth Grade Oper etta. Our year as eighth graders was very successful. VVe got our start as lllllSlftlZl.lliS, journalists, a11d actors this year. And then caime the best adventure of our school life-High Schocl. We started our career as freshmen under the capalble 'leadership of Rieliazrd Clucker. Several members made the class famous in loot- ball and basketball. Eugene McNeill made tlhe debate team, a great honor for a freshman. Unlike most classes, we were fortunate in being not quite as green as most freshmen. We finished the year with a big picnic and dance Qwhich all upperclassmen atlendedj We chose Alice Maiy Kraus for president when. we were soph- mores. This year the class really began to show peopliel what albiliiy it had in the way of athletics. We had five men on tlhe Football Varsity and Arlo Aurand, that speedy little forward, made the bas- ketballtealn it baseballteain h1XVhlCh the SOIHIOHIOFCS took an ac- tive part was organized and class members also proved valuaible in track. That year the class of '31 learned from upperclassmen how to conduct a flag-rush. The next year was Ia, busy one indeed. The Juniors gave a farce, Second Childhood, for their play, in which they really did credit to themselves. Tue play was such a financial success that the elass was able to give the best Junior-Senior Prom yet to be given. The class proudly felt that it had reached successfully, that goal which every Junior class wishes to reach. The same year the class became known for lengthy conferences be'h'ind closed doors? 'Z ? At last we are full fledged seniors. Our class play The Ilon- avon Affair is over. The Junior-Senior Prom, given by the juniors was a fitting trilbute to the seniors. Only Commencement and Bae- calaureatc remain. The class of '31 has really tried to leave some- thing of value to the Spirit of Kenton High School and we feel that it is a grand old class leaving al grand old school. NAOMI PARMER.
