THE STATESMAN National Honor Soeiety Eleven seniors and three juniors were honored by membership in the National Honor Society on Class Night held on june 2. Any junior or senior who is in the upper third of his class scholastically is eligible to be considered. 15 percent of the seniors and 5 percent of the juniors eligible are selected on the qualities of service, leadership, and character. The selection of members for the society is made by a comm- ittee of four members of the faculty and the principal. They are Mr. F. N. Harsh, Miss Blanch Miller, Miss Amy Herriff, Miss Norma D, Vifood, and Mr. E. R. Myer. The four seniors who were chosen in their junior year are Margaret Ruth Read, Mary Eileen Cook, Robert Curtiss, and Earl Wise. The National Honor Society was organized as a national soci- ety in 1921 through the efforts of the Department of Secondary' School Principals of the National Education Association. The local chapter was organized in 1925. In the United States there are now a thousand Chapters and A twentyffive thousand members. A , 1 There are eightyafive mzmbers in the Kent State chapter. This senior class has the distinction of being the only class so far to be able to select four members in the junior year.
