Published by The Students of Kent-Meridian Junior High School 11, Q u . 171-incqnal d dx Your Principal is pleased with the excellent progress made by the student body this year. Our school has had a number of firsts of which we may be justly proud. With the ad- dition of the seventh grade this was our first year as an accredited junior high school. Our basketball squads set an envi- able record of firsts. The fine yearbook you are holding is another first of its kind. With these and many other aceomplishments,we are closing an outstanding year. Congratulations on a task well done. Dr. J. Arthur Stewart -5. I' Vice Principal Mr. Mahlon Douglas Our school was established as an eighth and ninth grade Junior High School in September 1951. In September 1954, we became a three year Junior High with the addition of both a new nine classroom building and a seventh grade. This year we have had an enrollment of 750 students and a faculty of 55 ten- chers and principals. .4- ?acu1fq uf. 1 x X. - ' a7x First row: Crawford, Kemp I- Pala, Krakow, Graham, Herzberg, - ' ,4 Stoddard. 1' 0 Qigg X J, First row: Wilson, Timbers Harrison. Junior High was a new experience to most of us, but we stepped right into line and walked the road straight through the eighth grade, stopping off for the side-line activities. The leading characters in this chapter were our class officers, John Welty, President, Faith Magill, vice president, Ardie Far- man, secretary, Greg Anderson, treasurer and like Heutmaker, who represented us as vice president of the Student Body. Four of the eighth grade girls, Bonnie Kennedy, Ardie Farman, and Alice Turner, were song leaders at the games and Pam Ness was a cheer leader. With all their pep and school spirit these girls hel- ped us to show our backing for the teams by leading us in our school songs and cheers at all the football and the basketball games and the pep assemblies. The highlights of this chapter were the Junior Hi Carnival and the Girls' Club Tolo. At the Carnival, each one of the hobby clubs sponsored a booth Mike Heutmaker, Marlene Anderson, Jerry Skagen and Ardie Far- man were the eighth grade candidates for King and Queen. lost of us attended the Tolo. 'Cupid's Paradise' was chosen as the theme. It was th only dress-up dance of the year. Leading up to the Tolo were Twin Day, Clash Day and White Shirt Day. We started the ninth chapter in our student life as upperclaes- :en at the Junior High. This time we were feeling quite at ome. The outstanding characters in this chapter were Mike Heutmaker, Student Body president, Ardie Farman, Secretary-treasurer for the Student Body, Dick Strain, Boys Club president, Annetm Skagen, Girls Club president, three song leaders, Pam Ness,Judy Taylor and Annette Skagen and three of the cheer leaders, Ardie Farman, Bonnie Kennedy and Alice Turner. The two big events of the year were the carnival and Girls Club Tolo. Annette Skagen and Mike Heutmaker reigned as Queen and King of the Carnival. The theme of the Tolo was 'One Enchanted Eveningn.Ardie Farman was selected Queen and chose Mike Heutma- ker as King. We will end our last year at the Junior High with the Mother's Tea sponsored by the Girls Club, and the Freshman Frolic in honor of the Freshman class. -4- a .Rik ?1-airmen 5 ' if' 1 .ai if First row: Richard Mc- Clusky, Earl Clark,Dan Higgens, Syllvan Rob- erts. The team started very strong and had an attitude that was good for winning ball games. They had turned out early and worked hard. As a result we won the first half of the league games without much trouble, but during the second half the other teams improved more than we had. The early winning streak gave the team the morale and life to finish out the second half with only one defeat. In the really tough games the team played very well and most all the players Ihowed promise of becoming even better ball players in their senior high school years.
