awful It rears its spires above the rim of the desert and its bas IS lapped by the xx 1ters of the river of mystery And there Zanda the prophetess xx is born and there she lived and letrned the age old secret of foretelling the fu ture Hers xvas a family of prophets For centuries great kings had com and lud their tretsures at the feet of the prophets of the desert and to foretell the future and per petuate the line of the prophets of thc Middle River was Zanda born But came one day Micha the Terrible Turk and he liked not the futur Zanda foretold for him and so he stripped the Templc of its furnishings and drove Zanda out into the d s rt Ior 1 long time she wandered the face of the earth and finally came to America where she joined a roving band of Gypsies And so I went to Zanda in her tent on the Puyallup Iur Grounds and learned the future of the Class of 194 Under the influence of Zanda s hypnotic exe and with the smoke from the incense lamp curling through my nos trils I fell asleep and awoke ID another age on the streets of a large c1tx Wandering through this city I bumped into a pan handler he was saying Help the blind help the blind When I turned tround and looked into his face it xvas none other than that of FRED KIRCHNER We got to talk ing over old times and he took me up to his luxurious suite at the Olympic Hotel where he and GEORGE PRINGLE were batchrng It seems that they had been making a pretty good living oHI this pan handling my way through this stringe city Looking up on one of the office building windoyxs I stw painted The Hauge Dancing Studio Deciding that mx Foxtrot needed 1 little brushing up and xxondering if this xxas the slme HILDA HAUGE that I xx ent to school with and also be ing curious to hnd out vxhy her last name was still Hauge I entered the building The elevator operator reminded me of someon Iles it xvas MAX BETH OSTERHOUSE Of course w had to reminisce a little bit and I asked her how come she xvas working as an elevator op rator She told me that Leroy Millcr had left her and she was carry ing the torch Upon arriving at the dance studio I was gre ted by a very suave man LEONIARD LEVACK the studios high pressure salesman I lust couldn t picture silent Leonard as a salesman but after I found myself subscribing to a month of dancing instruction I decided that people do change Ushered into the main studio I was greeted by the hostess There were tall girls and short girls so the short or tall m in wouldn t feel self conscious On of th tallest girls I noticed was VIRGINIA SMITH and I had to look twice to see the shortest but on com pleting further investigttion I found her to be VIRGINIA LEE She look d pretty good but how could she teach m n to dance' Sh was s x small they would have to pick h r up and carry h r I sud that I would like to see Miss Hauge and was 1mm dutely ushered into an elaborate office There sat Hildr on the lap of her secretary JIM INIIXONI I also notic d a picture on th wall It xxas a very striking picture the surrealist s 1d a of a Milk Maid I observed that th painter xvas the gr at Am rican artist GERALDINIE BERC I saw that Hil la was busy dictat ing a letter to jim so I left and decid d that my dancing lessons xvould have to xy ut until I could catch Hilda in a less preoccupied moment Deciding that it wts timc that I introduced my stomach to a good hearty meal I entered a restaurant where I thought I might get a good meal for a reasonable price but I soon found out that wls impossible I entered a very clean and respectable looking restaurant and was con fronted by the head waiter who had 1 familiar voice I didnt recogniae the black moustache but the sight of his black hair xvas familiar When he cut loose with his very bad French I know it must be DON BARBER Who else but Go Getter jones could acquire French so fast I found out later he learned to parlezvous from 1 little French girl After I had been seited in my booth a com petent looking xx aitress came up to get my order I got to talking to h r and found that sh was working in place of BARBARA SHEEHAN who had taken the day off to go to the beich It seems that working inside Barbara had become pale because of the lack of sunshine and had gone to the beach to get some and the waitress said under her breath not many men come in here so Barbara de c1ded to go in search of her con guest A floor show was featured here and I got in just in time to see the opening numb r The master of ceremonies announced their petite little brunette .IOANNE ELLIOTT who said he will sing Irving Berlin s latest hit Black Skies When she got half way through the song her voice cracked and I mo tion l her to com over and SIE down She excplamed that her voice xvas lust plain tired because this 1sn t the only place she works she works at another night spot at IO oo each evening I asked her the reason she was working so hard She sa1d she had married a good for nothing lug that was alwxys b tt1ng on the races at Vandora Track asked her who the guy was adding there was no one in our class She said that -IIINI GLENN appeared to be a n1ce hard working boy in the good old days but now she was supporting him I told her I would look jim up and see ifl couldn t straighten him out She said that it was no BOB MORRIS LAVAUGHN NEILSON and LARRY LEACH Who ever thought that these nice boys would ever go astray' Ofcourse xvhen one gets away from school and the iron hand of Mr Anderson you never can tell whit will happen Having completed my meal I asked the waitress for my check She brought it to me on a tray with some smelling salts I couldn t figure out what the smelling salts was for but when I looked at the check I knew Wheyx' Sr, so Wow That was too much for just a cup of coffee so I asked to see the manager The wait ress left and a man walked over to my table and said Daaaaa what can I do for you' Thus I encountered BEV FORSYTHE for the first time since graduation I asked him why he was not playing the drums some place for a living He said he played sometimes when his drum mer was absent While I was talking to Bev I noticed a crowd around a very good looking young man They were teen aged girls screaming and hollering and asking for his autograph Upon closer investigation I found DAVE GOEDECKE and his mellow trumpet Dave wasn t com plaining about the crowd all he sa1d was and again I quote such IS the pric of fam After leaving the restaurant I decided that I would take a paunt out to th good old town of Kent It was now on the map a great big black spot As I looked around the large CITY of Kent I saw Mrs Ken Wenham the form r HAZEL BONWELL living very comfortably in a small house with her SIX children Com ing towards Hazel s house was that slow moving GLENN BOSSHART I rememb r him as th little boy who never cared much about girls Anyhow he hasn t found a wife yet so he is taking out Hazel s oldest daughter who is eight years old They decided to take m skating at the new roller skating rink op rated by a former classmate MYRA BALL and her husband who is a professional skater from Tacoma In one corner of the rink is Elsie s Lunch Room As we entered I noticed a familiar face ELSIE BEGLINGER She got tired of working at the 4 I r A I'. t I .
