He is a dedi- cated and conscientious teacher who is liked and respected by the student body and faculty alike and who has worked to make our years at Kenston more productive and rewarding. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know him will always be thankful for his guidance through the years at Kenston. Forty Years of Public Service MR. JAMES MALE President vw by ,wi MRS . DOROTHY NICHOLS Clerk-Treasurer Duties and Functions Often under fire from the community, the school board tries to please ITIOSI of the people all of the time. The five- member school board and clerk, Mrs. Nichols, constantly try to run the school justly and efficiently. Among the school board 's many duties are to hire teachers and administrators, to make the budget, and to form school policy. These five men are to be commended for their efforts and public spirit. They are always open to public scrutiny, yet their jobs are curiously rewarding. 8 Superintendent Although his concern must be with the whole school district and all the Kenston Schools, Dr. Hirshey has taken a great interest in the affairs of the high school and the high school students. His educational leadership has made itself felt in many ways during this year. Thank you, Dr. Hirshey! ..4hv--' Pr: n Cl pal Mr. Klaisner, during his second year as princi- pal, has performed his duties in a creditable fashion. His calm, considerate, direct approach to the prob- lems that have arisen have made these problems smaller than they might have been. He has taken great interest in student life and has often been seen at class, club, and athletic activities. He certainly deserves our respect, our admiration, and our pledge of future cooperation. We look forward eagerly to the new horizons that have suddenly opened before us. Some of us are heading to collegeg some are ready to venture out on our own and see what the world has to offerg but all of us are going to encounter new experiences and make new friends. It 's with a lot of hope and with no little sadness that we go. Remember the sophomore spaghetti supper? Remember the prom of our Hunior and senior years? Remember the failures and triumphs of the Kenston Bombers? Remember how each little thing seemed so big and so important and gradually changed to its true proportion? Yes, we remember. Let each of us promise to himself never to for- get the rich experiences that have been shared with the faculty and fellow students as we bid a fond fare well to Kenston High School, our alma mater dear. Visitor From Abroad Victor Laus, Kenston's second A,F,S, exchange student this year, came to Kenston the second semester from West Geauga. On his first day here Max introduced him to the senior homerooms with the words, Be good to him. From then on Vic was on his own, In his own quiet manner he circulated around the school making friends of all he met. In English class he astounded the seniors with his dexterity with the language which he learned in school in the Philip- pines, After school classes in June, Vic leaves for a trip to various parts ofthe U,S, and then for his home, When he goes, he'll take the memories ofthe year well spent with him and leave memories of his wisdom behind. 36 Victor at home with the Watson family, This year one of Kenston's foreign exchange students was Max Bragado, a lively Latin from Spain, Max lived with the Robbins Bosworth family on Bainbridge-Auburn Road, He arrived in Bainbridge late in August. Max quickly won the friendship of all the members of the senior class at an open house given in his honor before school started, I-le soon be- came one of the best known boysinthe school. His efferves- cence was exceeded only by his ability to play the piano and to woo the girls, After this year, Kenston's halls will never more hear his Spanish-accented English, but it will be a long time before anyone will forget Max Bragado, Good luck, Max, Adios. Editor-in-Chief - DAVID CLEMENS Business Manager - SANDRA CHILDS I 964 Kenstonian Copy Editor -CHRIS EVANS Photography Editor - TERRY LUMME Editing a yearbook is like trying to put out a news- paper with no news: everything must be rearranged and changed in order to give the impressions of new- ness and originality. That is the job of the yearbook staff members, racking their brains to try to find a different way to organize the Kenstonian. The year- book staff also has to make money to publish the book for each year the cost of the yearbook is close to 32000. 00. To do this the staff literally searches the countyside looking for buyers of advertisements for the yearbook. In addition to all of this, the staff has to meet deadlines and cope with lazy staff members. We, the staff, offer our thanks to Miss Mummart for shouldering the responsibilities and the headaches that come from being the Kenstonian faculty sponsor. Sports Editor RICHARD REICHERT Asst. This spirit is promoted by the members of the Pep Club and their advisor, Mrs. Kay Hurd. In addition to cheering the football basketball, and wrestling teams on, the girls and guys put up signs in the halls and work hard putting on clever skits for the pep rallies. Any student at Kenston High can become a member of this organiza- tion. 88 OFFICERS, L-R: S. Heringa, treasurer: P. Mosentha secretary: S. English, president: M. Sherry Webster Jamie Starbuck Susi Tucek Polly Rovtar Cheerleaders Last spring the high school faculty picked eight girls for Kenston High's cheerleading squad. The Varsity and Junior Varsity squads consist of four girls each, sophomores through seniors represented. Cheerleaders have a very special function to perform at school athletic activities by leading and channel- ing the schoo1's spirit in support of the football and basketball teams, Although there is a feeling that perhaps cheerleaders are unnecessary, their hard work planning pep rallies and bolstering school spirit is as important to a football team or basketball team as a football or basketball, The easiest thing in the world to do is to have spirit when winning, but it is hard to keep when losing. Although Kenston didn't enjoy a winning season, the cheerleaders, Varsity and Junior Varsity, maintained the school spirit, 89 1963-64 Kenston High School Marching Band DRUM MAIORETTE - Annie Smith Band The seventy member Kenston High School Marching and Concert Bands played for many functions during the past year The marching band played for the football games, entertain- ed at the Chagrin Falls Airport Air Show, and, also, played at various other civic affairs. The Concert Band played concerts both at the high school and away from the school, The band received an excellent rating at the District Music Contest in March, Many individuals participated in the Solo and Ensemble Contests in February, Kenston students received four superior and six excellent ratings this past year, The band also participated in the Geauga County Band Festival in February which was held this year at Kenston, Mr, Sisler has really done a wonderful job this year, 90 Majorettes L-R, STANDING - K. Loscei, and Coach Krohn, The Kenston Bombers suffered a long, disappointing season, finishing with a 2-16 mark, The Bombers were hurt by the loss of outstanding sophomore, Larry Stubbs and senior Mac Smith, both of whom moved out of town. This, coupled with the fact that Kenston played a few really tough teams, constitutes some of the reasons why Kenston did so badly, The Bombers did, however, provide their supporters with a couple of respectable showings against Newbury and Solon. Kenston traveled tothe Class AA tournament at Euclid at the close of the season, The Bombers were hopelessly outclassed by this much larger school, losing 84-29. Coach Paul Krohn has three returning lettermen, Junior Paul Saiter was the team's leading scorer, and he will be returning next year with junior Paul Barrett and sophomore Rich Reichert, Paul Saiter was placed on the honorable mention All-Conference team, l00 Kenston Kenston Kenston Kenston Kenston Kenston Kenston Kenston Kenston Cha grin Falls Ledge mont W .
