Boys' Basketball BACK ROW: Left to Right - Coach Ouellman, Nihill, Fredrxckson, Burleson, Nogosek, D. Briss, and lxianager, Ronny Kramer. FRONT ROW: Left to Right - Snow, Teach. E. Brlss, Lambrecht, Goehring, and Lonski. After dropping their first 5 games, the Spartons came back strong to finish with 13 wins and 14 defeats. In conference play, we defeated Wimbledon and Rogers twice and Courtenay once to place third in the 91 league. At the county tournament, we won our second two games to Win the consolation championship. The boys played very good ball in the district tournament at McHenry to win third place. In the first game the Spartons defeated Glenfield, then lost to Mc?-Ienry, but came back with the best game of the season to defeat a strong Grace City team. The team was led by the scoring of Gordon Lambrecht and the fine rebounding of Bob Goehring. Freshman Kermit Tesch has proven himself an up and coming ball player. Eugene, John, Richard, and all the rest of the boys played good ball and showed fine spirit all year long. The loss of Bob, Gordon, and Eugene through graduation is going to leave three big pair of shoes to be filled. Eugene and Bob had their last season of basketball shortened by sickness during the district and county tournaments. The season was highlighted by the fine spirit shown by the boys. Without this spirit they could never have come back with the fine victories that marked the closing of the season. 33
