I Before a record breaking homecoming crowd Kenosha's Red grid warriors downed a stubborn Park eleven, 7 to O. A Covelli to Camosy pass early in the first quarter gave the Kenoshans a lead they never relinquished throughout the remainder of the game. Kenosha turned back many futile pass attempts of Park's in the final moments to earn a well deserved victory. OCTOBER 30. NOVEMBER 6. Football Games for 1937 OCTOBER 16. Under the lights of Monterey Stadium, Kenosha's Redrnen were defeated 6 to O by lanesville's undefeated eleven which later won the conference title. Early in the second quarter lanesville drove over for the lone marker from the fifteen yard line where a feeble Red punt had gone out-of-bounds. Alex Ferguson made a forty-three yard run which nearly resulted in a Kenosha score. OCTOBER 23. Kenosha I-ligh School's scrappy Redmen held Madison East scoreless for three quarters, but were unable to withstand Harold Rooney's savage running in the final period. The Purple and Gold scored on a seventy-one yard march for a 6 to O victory. Taking the ball on its own 29 yard line, East, led by Rooney, who carried the hall ll out of 13 plays, marched to the goal, Kenosha was in position to score twice in the fourth quarter, but adverse circumstances nullified both. 05 The Kenosha gridrnen, in the football finale of 1937, iolted Beloit, defending champion, 12 to 7, in the most stunning reversal of the year in the Big Eight Conference. The Reds removed Beloit from further title consideration, and this triumph gives them a rating of three wins and four defeats in the circuit for the 1937 campaign. Kenosha A A 13 coined their first touchdown when Covelli went over in the first quarter. The point triedfizzled. Demos scored Beloit's touchdown in the third period, and l-lanaman's kick put the purple ahead 7 to 6. In the final canto Alex Ferguson, behind a perfect spread of interference, breezed over with the deciding tally. l'r1gl' Idl:gllll'1'I1A Q Y l f-s Q ij' , hx I Qi 5 'fw-'lf ., . KIRN Died February 9, 1938 ln Memoriam Harry Kirn came to the manual arts department of the Kenosha High School in the fall of 1913, taking the place of Mr. Frank Karnes, who was going to the manual arts department of the Oshkosh State Teachers College. Mr. Kirn had lust finished the course at the Bradley Institute at Peoria, Illinois. I-le had had considerable practical shop experience in addition to his college work, and continued the practical shop work in local factories during the summer vacations. This combination of practical experience and academic training fitted him especially well for the class room and school shop work in the High School. In addition to being well prepared for his work in the educational field Mr. Kirn was a man of refinement. He was conscientious, self-respecting, and sincere, a thorough gentleman in every respect. His success in his chosen field for twenty' five years, all in the same school, is sufficient confirmation of his high intelligence and character as well as of his professional ability. The stamp of Mr. Kirn's systematic care and thoroughness will remain in his department for many years to inspire those who worked with him and respected him, and who are carrying on in the place that Mr. Kirn left vacant. ln Memory of IUNE SHELLEY Who Passed Away March l3, l938. It is distinctly a service club, working not only for the improvement of the school but also for the improvement of the student. The evening meetings usually feature a speaker, movies, or some educational phase of chemistry or science. The executive end of the club is run on a committee basis, with the work divided evenly among the members. Any student, a member or former member of a chemistry class, who pledges himself to live up to the ideals of the club, is eligible to membership.
