homclifc with the rouses bill mcroberts, rotary foreign exchange student from bendigo, victoria, australia, arrived in kcnncwick on January 15, 1972 to begin his year at kcnncwick high school, bill’s family includes a brother, alastair, 14, and three sisters, kirstie, 12, mcryan, 11, and jcnice, 9. his father owns a sheep ranch of 3000 acres, bill received a scholarship to attend the university at melbourne. he plans to take an actuarial course when he returns. bill’s had a number of new experiences since his arrival, here sixteen year olds drive cars; minimum age in australia is eighteen, he also noticed that more money is used here but this does not necessarily mean that more material goods are gained because of the higher cost of living, schools here have a wider range of subjects and are noticeably more carefree, more fun, and emphasize sports more - almost professionally by aussic standards, there are no exams here (with the exception of mr. deatherage’s novel class) to compare to the three hour exams in australia, bill also noticed that our man in the moon is upside down. the reason bill came was to create better understanding between the youth of the two countries, to learn our customs, our habits and our way of life and to try to explain australian ways. - donna rouse 47
