K H S Baseball In the sprlng and summer season of 1957 KHS put lnto actlon 1tS flrst baseball team The team turned ln a sausfactory record Only flVG games were played durlng the sprlng wlth Senath Bragg Clty Wardell Clarkton and Holcomb Mr Blll McAll1ster was the sprlng coach After the school term ended the team contlnued to play and entered a league whlch was made up of teams from Dunklln and Pemlscot Countles A new coach Mr Ray Sauncnes took over the squad for the summer The team lmproved greatly wlth experlence Two boys from Slkeston Jerry Presley and Blll Thoma on added needed strength to the squad The Indlans flnlshed second ln league play wlth seven vvlns and three losses Haytl took flrst place a dependable pltcher to back up Ierry Huffstutler When the tournament started though lt was a dlfferent story The Indlans won the tournament ln three games beatlng Wardell 6 O Hayt1 13 O and Ross 5 4 In the playoff Mlke jones led the team ln battlng wlth a 545 average and Huffstutler contrlbuted some very flne pltchlng Plans at thls tlme are a blt 1ndef1n1te as to sprlng baseball and 1t lS now probable that baseball wlll be played durlng the summer season only BACK ROW Huffstutler, Parr, L Iones, Carroll, Martm, and M Iones FRONT ROW Presley, Thomason, Farless, Tmmn, and Conner 0 , . Meets participated in were: Poplar Bluff Relays, Kennett Invitational, Dunklin County Meet, Big 8 Conference Meet, Freshman and Soph- omore Big 8 Conference Meet, District Meet, and Missouri State Class B Meet.
