A thousand sweet memories are holding them fast To the places they blessed with their presence and love. The work which they left and the books which they read Speak mutely, though still with an eloquence rare And the songs that they sung, the dear words that they said, Yet linger and sigh on the desolate air. K. for the students of the surrounding areas. Representatives from colleges, technical schools, and other schools presented the students with the opportunities offered at each school. TURNING O THE SWITCH On October 7, the students of J.F. K. enjoyed an hour presentation by O. G. Fitzgerald. He shows the students memory management. He bases his methods on psychology, philoso- phy, and common sense. He believes any- one can remember anything he sees and any- thing he hears if he is interested. O.G. Fitzgerald's advice to students is to turn on the switch. SINGERS FROM E GLA D On November 19, the student body and the faculty of J. F. K. were entertained by North and West, from England. They sang both modern songs and folk songs, while Mike, the male in the act, played on the guitar. The student's cooperation with their singing along, showed how welcome they were at our school. n, ...M J TIM X iw--- Q Peek-a-boo, Frank! Debbie! Another leak! VICKI! Help me! ! The French planters took all their daughters Off the island when they heard the GI'S were coming. The GI'S and the sailors had no women except a few nurses, but as Stewpot QKirt SchmidtJ put it, some of them nurses, the officers can have them. Then along comes Bloody Mary QNancy McKibbon!Vicki Bennettj with her Gu.rly Book store and Billis lGary Bairdj with his ideas. On the other side of the wall the officers, Capt. Brackett Uoe Sayersj, Commander Harbinson QMark Semej aj and Lt. Cable QNorm Bothunj, are trying to fight a war. Even though Billis is on their side they manage to do a fairly good job. In the mean time Emile 0Bruce Edmanj and Nellie 4Paula Lenskij meet, have problems, solve them and live happily ever after with Emile's Polynesian kids, Ngana 4Ann Rintaj and Jerome QDavid HalversOnJ. Lt. Cable and Liat fCarey Deutschj, daughter of Bloody Mary, fall for each other. Cable and Emile are sent by Brackett, with the ingenious diversinary help of Billis, on a secret mission. Nellie and Emile are finally reunited, but Liat never again sees Cable who was lost fighting for his country. Finally the military moves out with Brackett taking command of 'his' ship with Billis and Stewpot aboard, and the island returns back to normal. THE CHARACTERS NOANA . . . JEROME ........ February 17th was Hobo Day. Everyone dressed in old, patched clothes, each trying to look funnier than the other. The school was entertained by the Senior High Choir and a movie. The pool and gym were open on Thursday night and a free lunch was served. Friday was Purple and White Day. In the afternoon, a pep rally, the Coronation and Kangaroo Court were held. Buzz Schneider and Pam Church were crowned King and Queen. The junior Royalty were Chip Scott and Betty Slade, and the Sophomore Royalty were Vicki Sveine and Terry Krause There were pancakes for everyone on Saturday morning, followed by broomball games in the arena. The Frolic closed with the semi-formal dance. Music was provided by I-Iooke from Virginia. After the dance, hamburgers, hot dogs, and pizza were served. Swimmers take your mark . . . 72 5.2 1971 - 1972 Swimming Team The 1971 - 1972 season saw Babbitt post its best record since the beginning of the high school. The Knight swimmers, with a record of 13 and 3, were defeated by perennial range powers Virginia and l-Iibbing and were upset by Eveleth in Eveleth's pool. One week later the swim team reversed that loss with a resounding defeat of Eveleth in Babbitt's own pool. A few of the high points of the season were the establishment of new school records by some of the Babbitt swim team. The Medley Relay Team of Torn Olson, Doug Beckwith, Dan Chamberlin and Gary Poffenberger, Dennis Johnson in Diving and Doug Beckwith in the 100 yard Breast Stroke, and Dan Chamberlin in the 100 yard Butterfly, were record breakers for the year. In December the swim team had another first when they won the Biwabik quintantular for the first time in five years of trying. As of now we don't know how many, if any, of our swimmers will qualify for the state meet but we are always hopeful that at least as many as last years six will make it. The best individual performance to date was probably that of Co-Captain Dennis Johnson winning the diving at the Virginia Invitational, February 24. He defeated the best of 17 other schools to earn that distinction. Hi' siWS31'v 1 'K if Practicing Success! ! BASEB LL Sm.-fix f .mm 3 J gwllfy I gwflfli, , I., 'I ,. 1.
