Once again the cougar grapplers had a terrific season. Coach john- athan Schaefer led the team to many glorious victories with the help of assistant coach Johnathan Zucchero. The team's dual meet record was 10 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties. Kennedy was the Division la Champions. The team defeated top ranked Massapequa in a very tough match. The team's only loss was to Baldwin in the dual meet County Champion- ships. The team placed high in all of the tough tournaments. This season Kennedy, had two tough wrestlers who alternated at 98 pounds and 105 lbs: Michael Leit, and Howard Krotman. They were also fine light- weights. William Minerva at 91 lbs. had an extremely good season. Michael Leit won the Sprig Gardner Toumament, was the Division 1A 98 lbs. champ, and he placed third in the Nassau County Championships. Howard Krotman placed fourth in the Sprig Gardner Tournament, and the Divisional Tournament. He did an outstanding job. A 112 lbs, Howard Kurzrock did extremely well for his first season on the Cougar Wrestling team. There were two 119 lbs. wrestlers this season: john Gatto and john Grecco. Both wrestlers placed in the divisions. john Gatto was the runner-up, and john Grecco was third. Mark Miller did a terrific job at 126 lbs. He placed in the Spig Gardner Tournament, and was third in the divisions. Kennedy also had many fine middle weights. Rich Goldberg did extremely well this year. He placed 2nd in the Divisions in a very tough weight class. He defeated many high caliver wrestlers this season. At 138 lbs. Salvatore Albanese did a fantastic job and really helped the team a great deal. He won many tough matches. Keith Cavavero did an outstanding job after being seriously injured last year. He placed 3rd in the Sprig Gardner tournament, 3rd in the windsor toumament, first place in the divisions, and he was a Nassau County Champion. Senior Phil Danielle did a terrific job. He won the Sprig Gardner Tournament. He place in the Windsor tournament, he won the Divisions, and he place sixth in the Nassau County Champion- ships after being injured the week before. This year Kennedy had terrific heavy weights. During the dual meets Ron Delhago wrestled a 167 lbs. and Bill Lubell wrestled at 177 lbs. During tournaments both wrestled at 167 lbs. Ron Delgado placed in three tough tournaments and did a fantastic job during the dual meets. Of all the teams members Bill Lubell did the best job. He placed second in the Sprig Gardner tournament, after losing to a state champion in the finals. He won the Windsor tournament, the divisions, and the Nassau County Championship for the second time. class. Coach John Schafer hopes that next years team will do just as well, if not better. 74

Dubble tag suicides . .. secondary breaks . . . more suicide . . . defensive positioning . . . widths . . . still more suicides . . . water break. Sometimes daily practices did feel like a never ending grid, but our dedication and determination eventually paid off. We finally established ourselves as a power to be reckoned with in Nassau County. The Team posted a 9-3 record and a 13-6 overall. Students and teachers took note of the team's successes and began to support us in great numbers. They were there during our seven game winning streak, culminating in a last second victory against East Meadow and Syosset. They were there to sup- port us in East Meadow where we just failed at our gallant comeback. Eventually, they were there to share our disappointment in our playoff game against Oceanside. For four months twelve players fought cheered sweat and played together as a team A team that hopefully brought excitement and a couple of memo- ries to the Kennedy High School gym wf 76 F
