The nineteen seventies. The years when the baby boom generation finally grew up . . . Women came into their own . . . And the battle for human rights raged from the classroom to the courtroom, inside Washington and around the world. We saw the marriage of Farrah Fawcett Majors and the strike of the Miners . . . A rise in gold prices and a fall in taxes fProp 13? . . . We mourned two popes and welcomed a third . . . We remember baggies, Sasoons, Calvin Kleins, Clouds for Friday nights and Saturday Night Live for a quick laugh . . . We began with Bar Mitzvahs and ended with Sweet 16's and graduation . . . We went from the Partridge Family to the Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac and Billy joel . . . From sipping our first glass of wine to buying our first case of beer . . . We saw an Olympic massacre and an Entebbe rescue. The death of Gary Gilmore the birth of the first test tube baby. There was Kent State and Watergate, the rise of the new wave and the fall of Skylab. Out of Vietnam and into streaking, jogging, and raquetball. The Bakke case and where to put nuclear waste . . . Nadia won while Olga lost. The ayatollahhhh moved in and the Shah moved out. There was Anita Bryant supportined her fruits and the Gays promoted his rights. We spoke on CB's and listened to Imus . . . We saw Egypt and Israel come together. While Cher got divorced twice. We closed our doors to Russia and opened our homes to Cable TV. We began relations with China and had problems with Iran. We saw the birth of Ziploc bags and the death of hundreds in Jonestown fwho by coince- dence came home in Ziploc Bagsj. There was Rocky Horror and the horroe in Cambodia, the Brady Bunch and a bunch of new angels. Fast Food was in and large gas guzzlers were out. We developed sophiticated computers and new energy sources. Red dye H2 was outlawed while pot was decriminalized. Religious cults were in and the boat people were out to sea . . . The victories of Dorothy Hamill, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mark Spitz, and the loss of Thurman Munson. Gas prices and drinking age went up while AP Chem enrollment went down - way down. We said goodbye to the King and Conrad Hilton checked out . . .
