Qlrgalrnizaitiicolrns and Muscular Dystrophy. The funds were raised through the sale of candy. In addition to the monetary contribu- tions, Interact serves the community by donating its time to several causes. The club made valentines for the senior citi- zens, visited a children's ward at a hospi- tal, and marched in the annual Home- coming Parade. Throughout the year, Interact has con- tinued in its tradition of outstanding school and community service. Their con- tribution is truly appreciated. Another notable organization which is involved in fund raising for the benefit of the community is AYS. AYS is more than just initials - itis a school sponsered or- ganization that serves the community, its people, and the school. The majority of the funds raised went towards a much overlooked yet very im- portant community service: street signs. That's right - street signs. Do you think they grow on trees? The club arranged for signs pointing towards Kennedy to be errected on some major intersections in the area. The money for these signs was A.Y.S. Wait! VVho's in charge here? The community work included helping out at childrens' hospitals, sending Christmas cards to American hostages in Iran, assist- ing at senior citizen centers on Long Island, and donating books, games, and toys to needy children. For the school, AYS made The New York Times available to the student body and faculty every morning. As the initials indicate, AYS was indeed at your service' this year. Its service is certainly well appreciated. The Leo Club is a community service club which participates in many chari- table events. It is sponsered by the Lions Chapter of Bellmore, and has been quite active this year. The club participated in a canned food drive for the needy, sent Season's Greetings cards to the American hostages in Iran, sold school buttons to raise the school spirit and encourage the athletic teams, and sponsored two profitable bake sales fthe proceeds of which went to a deserving cause on Long Islandh. A fabulous time was had by all who participated in these productive activities. This years Leo Club did a fine job and demonstrated that it is not a sleeping bear, but rather a vibrant organization determined to help others. Service organizations are a vital part of any learning establishment. It takes a spe- cial type of person to give of himself for the benefit of others, and these tpye of people made up these service organiza- tions this year at Kennedy. They enjoyed a very prosperous and fulfilling year, and successfully accomplished many note- worthy services for the school and the community. And they had fun!!
