And coming at them it did. Within ten short years the tradition of male A.S.B. presidents has been broken twice this year with Stephanie Young ltop left with David Sullivanl and Kim McManus ltop center with companyl in 1971. Dress code bonds have been broken and the typical appearance of a typical Kennedy High student of a few years ago lbottom rightl would be considered very out of style today because students are a little more liberal-minded about the way they dress. Take Kevin Glass itop rightl a typical Kennedy High student in one of today s' more casual styles. One example is Kathy Enriquez, who is counseling a junior high student. The seventh - grader's mother had passed away. and she sat in her classes. closed in to herself. Kathy is acting almost as a second mother to her. The work Kathy and her partners do is voluntary. and they take special enjoyment in listening and rapping with people. However, we still have the vandals. the graffiti artists. the name engravers, and bathroom-tabloid gossip columnists. Although we can't isolate and do anything about the wall-writers, we can do plenty about the schooI's environmental appearance and atmosphere. This year a club has been formed to improve the way the campus looks, to change the sterile feeling. This, along with the annual Campus Clean-Up Day, is one of the ways students can sweep others' destructive forces into the can. The past-You're on schoolgrounds, and you need a place or a group to hang around with. You could go around with the hair-ratted, leather jacketed. booted Votos. lf you weren't that, you could stick around with the Surfer types, complete with Pendletons. tennis shoes. surfer shirts, pompadour hairdos lor even no hair at alll. and Beach Boy records. But you can't do that now. Today it'is the Southlawners. the Jocks, the Rah-Rahs, the Drama and Music People. all bad lmeaning super-goodl groups. And if you don't like to hang around with THOSE groups. you could try to start one of your own. Just as long as you don't hang around burnt or wasted people. That can be a real bummer. Good luck. lf you could hang around with the Vots or Surfers years ago. that was really neato. Kennedy High School. the varsity basketball team won the M.V.A.L. championship with a 12-2 record. Of the 12 wins 5 were by one point including an overtime game against Washington to provide a very exciting season. The mainstays of the team were Jack Vogel. the league's leading scorer and Eric Wittorff. who both won Prep of gthe Week awards. Forwards Mike Scott, Mike Frietas. Larry Edwards, and centers Chuck Steffeck and Mike Wayne contributed greatly along with John McLaughlin. Mike Jung. and Greg Stinson. The 1974-75 edition of the Titan J.V.'s finished with 13 wins and 10 losses overall. Their league record was 8 wins and 6 losses. giving the Titans a fifth place finish in the league standings. With a team composed of one junior and the rest sophomores, the J.V.'s put together a record second only to the 1972-73 club. whose members can be found on this year's varsity. One of the interesting aspects of this year's J.V. team was participation in the Fremont High lSunnyvaleI J.V. tournament. Although they lost all three games. the young Titans produced the leading tourney scorer in Jorge Alfaro with 601 points. Alfaro was a unanimous all-tourney selection. Varsity Basketball J.V. Many of us are more college as well as job interested in what they were going to do after high school as oriented and we want to make something of our lives Many Many teachers, administrators, and students say that today's seniors are into humanitarian and environmental projects much more than our older brothers and sisters were. We are volunteering time and talent for programs which will save the environment for ourselves and for the future, and for on and off-campus activities like peer counseling, the Melissa tk. .ri ' Committee, and work with autistic children. Former Homecoming Queens: Clockwise from Howard, 1969, Glenda Preston. queen, and Dianna 1972: Cheryl Nelson, 1973: Debbie Denham. Jones, queen, and Bev Combs, 1968. A more girls now want to go to college, get jobs, and have careers, as well as get married, instead of wanting to get married as soon as they are out of high school. One problem is that jobs are getting hard to find. This is due to the general bad economic situation, but also, according to Tom Martin. Outside Work Experience Coordinator, partly because people who want jobs still don't have saleable skills- a problem which the Regional Occupational Program and departmental vocational classes like Fundamental Skills are trying to solve. We are all realizing that we have to get ready to get what we want. .14 'Nu .11 if -Bill SANDRA AGUILAR MARIE AGUSTIN. Varsity songgirl. Homecoming court. Likes Glenn. music, and dancing.
